Florida Woman Ejected From Car in Tragic Crash on International Speedway Boulevard

A 54-year-old woman was involved in a single-vehicle crash on International Speedway Boulevard, where her car overturned. She was ejected in the process, leading to her tragic death.

The incident took place around 10:10 a.m. on Thursday on the ISB, east of LPGA Boulevard in Daytona Beach. The Florida Highway Patrol confirmed that the woman lost control of her Mercury Mountaineer for reasons not yet known.

A report stated that the vehicle flipped over and came to rest within a cluster of trees. The woman was ejected during the rollover and was declared dead at the scene, according to the FHP report. No further details relating to the case have been released.

The intensity of the crash led to the closure of the right eastbound lane of ISB while troopers conducted an investigation.

MotorBiscuit reported another fatal crash yesterday involving a police officer, Caleb Abney, who was conducting a routine traffic stop on the northbound lanes of Interstate 75 when he was struck by a Chevrolet Camaro at around 100 mph.

The fatal crash was particularly heartbreaking since Abney was to get married in two months. Unfortunately, the Camaro driver also succumbed to his injuries.

One official from the Hahira Police Department opened up about the loss of a colleague like Abney. He said:

“Caleb was a great asset to not only the police department but to the city of Hahira and the whole area that we serve. Any police agency hurts when they lose one of their own. But to a small agency… you know, it becomes a brother and sisterhood, even closer than most”.

Abney’s family and friends have launched a GoFundMe campaign of $200,000 to help cover funeral costs and provide the much-needed support during this difficult time.

His family shared in his obituary: “In his short tenure as a Hahira, Georgia Police Officer, Caleb, because of his cheerful personality, had the ability to make people feel ‘OK’ when he gave them a ticket.”

The Hahira Police Department added: “Officer Abney served our community with honor, courage, and unwavering dedication.”

The community has stood with Abney and his family. A law enforcement procession was held as a tribute, where even motorists honked to show their respect. In addition, attendees wore bright colors to honor Abney’s personality at the celebration of life that was held on March 1 at the Lowndes County High School football stadium.
