Here’s a ruff story with an ending that will have your tail wagging. Imagine you and your dog hit the road for another long-haul shift. You park for a quick nap, curling up in your truck cab’s sleeper. Then—BAM! What was that? A crash? An earthquake? Nope. A tornado just flipped your entire semi truck rig like someone told it to, “Roll over.”

That’s exactly what happened to one Florida trucker on Monday morning. He and his dog were parked in Lake Mary when a freak tornado touched down around 9:40 a.m. The tornado crossed Interstate 4, lifted the semi truck right off the pavement, then slammed it down on its side at Commerce Street and Lake Emma Road.

The driver said he’s never been through anything like that before. “No. No, never. I have never experienced this,” he told reporters. But somehow, both he and his pup made it out unscathed. “The most important thing? I am fine.”

At the time of the tornado, the driver was “laying down, resting with his dog” in the semi truck cab. One minute, everything was calm. The next, they were airborne. “He was inside the truck when it lifted up, and then it fell on its side.”

His dog, a true road warrior, rode out the chaos by his side. When asked how his four-legged copilot handled the tornado flipping the truck, the driver didn’t hesitate: “My best friend.” Even after the most unexpected “rollover” of his life, the driver was still able to joke, describing his pup as “very excited.”

Neither man nor dog had time to prepare for the storm. The driver hadn’t even picked up his load yet when the tornado hit. “No, no, they hadn’t called him yet to pick it up.” Talk about bad timing.

At the end of the day, both trucker and pup walked away from the mess—probably a little shaken, but thankful to be alive. And while their truck may need some serious repairs, one thing’s for sure: after a ride like that, they both deserve the world’s biggest nap. And this time, with no interruptions.
