Florida Tire Shop Worker Clings to Fleeing Car’s Hood in Tragic Dispute Over $95

An employee of Just Stop Tires, Ashley Tyer, is fighting for her life in the hospital after she jumped onto the hood of a customer’s car as he tried to flee without paying the full amount for the used tires. The tragic incident has prompted her family to start a GoFundMe campaign to cover medical expenses.

Security cameras captured the scene in Mascotte, where the suspect lowered his vehicle from the jack after paying $95 instead of the full price. He then reversed out of the shop, nearly hitting another employee, but stalled at one point. That was when Tyer jumped onto the hood of his car and held on, determined to hold him responsible for the non-payment.

Unfortunately, instead of stopping, the suspect continued driving for about half a block until he made a turn, which sent Tyer flying off the vehicle. She is now on life support with serious injuries.

James Kelly, Tyer’s coworker, revealed that the matter heated up over the non-payment, something he witnessed regularly. He told WKMG News 6:

“It’s something I see every day now. I see the look on her face, trying to tell her to breathe—with no response. It’s probably one of the worst feelings in the world.”

He added:

“In the process of us walking back to the shop—where the customer was supposed to come in to pay—he ended up lowering the jack, getting in the car, and driving away.”

Tyer’s Contribution to the Workplace Acknowledged

Kelly stated that the man should have stopped once Tyer jumped onto the hood of his car. He said:

“He should’ve known—once she was on the hood of that car—not to do that. There’s no way he could’ve been in fear of his life. He has to be held accountable.”

Kelly opened up about how Tyer treated the shop as her own place, highlighting her selfless, energetic, and vibrant nature. Pointing at a discarded tire that Tyer had painted, he said:

“This tire has been sitting on the side of the building for a while. Ashley decided to take it out here and paint it.”

“She is tougher than nails—and she would outwork most men. I know she cared about this place more than the owner.”

The owner said Tyer was the ‘heart and soul of the shop,’ and they were turning her work into a tribute. A barbecue benefit is also being planned in Tyer’s honor on Saturday, March 28, at 1 p.m. at the shop on West Myers Boulevard.

While the news report states that Tyer is recovering from injuries, the GoFundMe campaign set up by her daughter Zoe states in the description that the incident claimed Tyer’s life, and the fundraiser is to help her family with burial or cremation expenses.
