Florida police find $14.7 million worth of cocaine in a semi-truck
Police officers in Florida were shocked when a routine traffic stop turned into a massive drug bust. The Drug Enforcement Administration’s West Palm Beach office notified the Florida Highway Patrol about a suspicious semi-truck.
According to NBC Miami, intelligence suggested that the tractor-trailer was suspected of transporting illegal narcotics from the Mexican border in Texas to South Florida. So, the truck driver made it pretty far before being stopped.
The DEA partnered with police officers to stop the truck as it traveled southbound on the turnpike. They searched the semi-truck and discovered a hidden trap door that was hiding multiple duffel bags filled with cocaine.
This trucker was busted with 146 bricks or 381.4 pounds of cocaine, which has a street value of roughly $14.7 million. The suspects were quickly detained and taken into federal custody for further investigation and prosecution.
Officials reported that one of the suspects was previously deported from the United States. Their names haven’t been released. It’s unclear if they are connected to the cartel.
Lieutenant Governor Jay Collins shared that this operation is a powerful example of the commitment to law and order.
He explained that criminals will be found and arrested as men and women stand on the front lines to protect Floridians from those who threaten their safety and future.
