A Lee County, Florida, deputy had just pulled over a driver on the night of June 4 when loud, high-pitched meows cut through the moment. That’s when both the motorist and the police officer noticed a tiny kitten wandering dangerously close to the road.
Bodycam footage released by the sheriff’s office shows the Florida driver asking to hop out and help
The deputy gave the green light, and the two worked together to scoop up the furry intruder. The kitten didn’t resist much, probably sensing that its luck had finally changed.
Once safely in the driver’s hands, the kitten received a quick invite to join a fishing trip. But the deputy had other plans. He gently placed the little furball in the back seat of his cruiser instead.
After the rescue, the officer let Florida Man off with just a warning, joking that the kitty had basically bailed him out, Fox 13 in Tampa Bay shared.
Lee County Sheriff’s Office later shared the video online, where the clip earned plenty of attention. Viewers praised the quick thinking and teamwork, and of course, the kitten’s impeccable timing.
The feline, now named Barry, is currently being cared for by Lee County Animal Services
Officials say Barry is healthy, spirited, and ready for adoption. So if anyone’s looking for a sidekick with a knack for dramatic entrances, there’s a whiskered co-pilot waiting.
As for Florida Man, he walked away without a ticket, and with what he called the best traffic stop of his life.
