Spilled milk? Whatever. Spilled beer? Now that’s a tragedy. Especially when it’s 44,000 pounds of beer flooding the highway after a crash.

Florida Highway Patrol troopers found exactly that on I-75 in Hillsborough County. A semi-truck, loaded with stacks of Busch Light and Budweiser, took a turn too fast. The driver lost control, the truck flipped, and suddenly, the road was drowning in beer.

The driver? Minor injuries. The beer? Total loss.

A brew-tal scene

The wreck happened in the early hours of the morning. The driver, a 53-year-old from Doral, Florida, was exiting to a rest area when he misjudged the curve. His truck tipped over, crashed, and the trailer split open, unleashing a flood of beer cans.

“Caution: Slippery When Wet” has never been more accurate.

Police and crash cleanup crews arrived to remove the wreckage and—more importantly—what was left of the beer. The highway was cleared later that evening, but not before social media had a field day.

Highway happy hour?

The internet wasted no time turning the disaster into comedy gold.

“Exact location please?” one commenter wrote. “I am a helpful citizen and will assist in the cleanup efforts.”

“This my Valentine’s gift ?,” another joked.

Somewhere, Homer Simpson is mourning. Stone Cold Steve Austin is cracking two cans in tribute. Meanwhile, beer lovers everywhere are raising a glass to what could have been.

Lessons in lager logistics from the great beer crash

This isn’t the first beer spill to hit the news, but it might be the most painful. Some people cried. Others laughed. A few may have seriously considered showing up with a funnel.

One thing is clear: if you’re hauling that much beer, take the curves slow.
