Everyone loves seeing a Dalmatian or any type of dog in a fire truck. However, one firefighter in Washington recently learned that cats don’t receive the same type of respect. He’s facing disciplinary action for having a cat in a truck during a pride parade.
Washington firefighter in trouble for having cat in a fire truck
A cat defied the odds by getting to ride in a fire truck during a pride parade in Spokane, Washington. But unfortunately, the firefighter who placed a cat in the truck is now facing disciplinary action.
If the cat was a dog, would he still be in trouble? According to KHQ, the Spokane Fire Department leadership stated that the cat and pride flags on the vehicle violated department protocol.
But it’s unclear if the cat named Selkirk caused any damage to the interior of the truck. He actually seemed to enjoy riding in parade traffic and getting attention from crowds.
Operations Chief Darren Neweirt shared that the firefighter acted without approval. Then he described the use of pride flags as politically charged with a breach of the chain of command.
Reportedly, no animals are allowed in the trucks. Neweirt said the incident was selfish and puts the fire department in a tough spot with residents.
However, the fire department is known for participating in the parade every year. Was this the first time that it was decorated? Also, the company officer in charge of the fire truck allowed these actions to take place.
Neweirt said that the department doesn’t need to adorn vehicles with politically charged stickers and flags because it wants to continue its message that they’re all there for the community.
Also, Selkirk is quite the sensation online with over 28,000 followers.
