The Porsche Taycan is one of the coolest and fastest EVs on the market. And it’s fast in more ways than one. Because it’s a high-performance EV, the Taycan can go really fast when you put your foot down, but it also charges quickly. Here’s a look at the Porsche Taycan, how fast it can charge, and other info you need to know.

An overview of the 2022 Porsche Taycan

Off the bat, the Porsche Taycan isn’t going to be a cheap EV. The standard model starts at just over $80,000, and a fully-loaded range-topping Taycan can easily surpass $180,000. But no matter which trim you choose, the Taycan provides plenty of power and speed. The standard Taycan makes 402 hp and 254 lb-ft of torque thanks to its electric motor. This allows it to go from 0 to 60 mph in 5.1 seconds. More expensive Taycan models have two electric motors and produce more horsepower and torque.

In terms of electric range, it varies depending upon which agency is doing the testing. However, even the best range rating, which comes from European testing, puts the Taycan’s standard range at just 268 miles. If it has a larger battery, the range bumps to just over 300 miles. However, in EPA testing, the Taycan’s range hovers closer to 200 miles.

Power and range aside, the Taycan’s interior is also one of its high points. This is especially true for the more expensive trims, which come with a massive 16.8-inch curved screen. The seats are also comfortable, and the Taycan boasts quite a few smart safety features.

How fast can the Porsche Taycan charge?

Another nice feature is that the Porsche Taycan can charge quickly. It can take in 270 kW with a DC fast charger — more than what many Tesla models can handle. As a result, a 2021 Taycan can recharge from 5% to 80% in just 22.5 minutes when plugged into an appropriate DC fast charger, InsideEVs reports.

Because of how charging works, the Taycan can receive a lot of charge quickly, but the speed of that charging will slow as the battery becomes fuller. However, thanks to the car’s 270-kW capacity, it can take in a lot of electricity quickly. In fact, it takes only about 10 minutes to get the Taycan to 50% charge.

That said, because charging slows down so much when the battery is near 100%, InsideEVs says it’s a good idea to unplug at around 80%. Despite that, drivers can get 150 miles of range in 10 minutes of fast charging, which is a nice feature.

Other important info about charging this high-performance EV

Thanks to how fast DC charging can be, the cost to recharge a Porsche Taycan can also be inexpensive. According to InsideEVs, charging to 80% costs only about $4.80. That said, electricity costs vary depending upon location and time of day. And unfortunately, DC fast-charging stations aren’t available everywhere.

The good news is that, technically speaking, the Taycan can be charged at some Tesla Superchargers. It’s currently a pilot program, so only Taycan owners in a few places can take advantage of it. However, if Tesla decides to roll this program out everywhere, Taycan drivers can rest easy knowing they can recharge at a nearby Tesla Supercharger.
