The Fast and the Furious franchise is a favorite among gearheads. This first one was released in 2001 and eight sequels, plus one spinoff followed it. The producers have announced that the main series will have two more films to be released in 2020 and 2021.

Filming for the ninth installment is already in progress. Recently, Universal was filming in a small Georgia town. You can see an armored truck smashing against three smaller cars as a helicopter makes its rounds in the air. This is a very common scenario in the movies, so we can expect to see the traditional high-stakes car chases for which the franchise is famous. The series is also famous for its big array of cool cars. Here are the vehicles that have confirmed so far.

1970 Dodge Charger R/T

In the video, we can see that one of the cars being chased by the truck is a 1970 Dodge Charger. Motorious reports that it’s a custom car created by SpeedKore and features a mid-engine layout. The Charger was a popular muscle car back in its day, but it’s also one of the most iconic cars of the Fast/Furious franchise.

It appeared in the first movie as Vin Diesel’s car of choice. Another version of the car appeared in Fast Five, and a new “off-road” edition was built for the seventh installment. Because Dodge Chargers are becoming more scarce on the used car market, the production team will often purchase ones in terrible condition or use shells to build custom bodies underneath. It’s a lot of extra work, but it’s worth it to keep up with the tradition of having the iconic Dodge Charger in the films.

Chevrolet Nova

The other car featured in the armored truck sequence appears to be a Chevy Nova. This is the car’s first appearance in the series. The car was first released in 1961 as a two-door sedan, though roadster and station wagon variants were built later. The Nova Super Short had the most powerful engine of the model line, a 6.5-liter V8 engine capable of 375 and 415 lb-ft of torque.

Despite the car being well-received upon its release, it couldn’t keep up with its competitors at the time. The Nova got many cosmetic changes over the years in an attempt to appeal to the current market, but the decreased demand and lower resale value ultimately led to its discontinuation.

Dodge Charger Hellcat Widebody

Vin Diesel’s character is getting a fresh ride in the newest movie. The actor teased a 2020 Hellcat on his Instagram account. This car is set to be released early next year, but specs of the car are already available online. The new Hellcat has a V8 6.2-liter engine, which can get up to 717 hp and 797 hp in the Redeye edition. The Widebody has a better performance rating, able to accelerate from 0-60 in a little under four seconds.

The Supra MK IV has been featured in a few of the Fast/Furious films in the past, and a 2020 Supra was spotted on the set of the latest movie. The car was recently the cause of some controversy involving “illegal street racing”, but the role it will have in this movie hasn’t been revealed yet. Under the hood, it has a six-cylinder turbocharged engine capable of 335 hp. It also comes in several colors, but the one featured in the movie is a striking bright orange. With its stylish appearance and impressive acceleration, there’s no doubt that viewers will have fun watching this one onscreen.
