So it’s time to buy a car. That’s great. However, you want to make sure your vehicle won’t cripple you with maintenance and repair costs. If that’s a top concern for you, these mechanics have a list of the most expensive cars to maintain and repair.

One American vehicle make is on the list of these mechanic’s picks for the most expensive cars to maintain

Royalty Auto Service in Georgia deals with all kinds of makes and models. As a result, they have some experience fiddling with pricey cars and bloated repair orders. So, after taking all their data from the last two years into account, the mechanics released a list of the most expensive cars to maintain.

  1. Jaguar

The icon from Coventry, England has a bit of a reputation. In addition to sultry luxury vehicles and motorsports chops, the brand has a history of maintenance and reliability headaches, especially with older models like the XJS. Incidentally, Royalty Auto Service found that the average repair order for Jaguars passing through their shop was over $1,500, giving it the No. 1 spot.

  1. Land Rover

As soon as Sherwood mentioned that Land Rover took the second spot among the most expensive vehicles to maintain, another mechanic responded, “That’s not surprising!” The ASE-certified mechanics at the shop cite cooling issues, electric gremlins, and frequent leaks.

  1. RAM Trucks

RAM Trucks earned the No. 3 spot among the priciest vehicles, making it the only American brand on the list. Sherwood of Royalty Auto Service said the popular trucks have frequent and expensive “engine issues” including lifter issues. What’s more, the team claims to deal with oil leaks in RAM trucks often.

  1. BMW

BMW scores just ahead of Volkswagen for the No. 4 spot among the most expensive vehicles to maintain. With pricey issues like the BMW VANOS (the brand’s variable valve timing system), repair orders can get expensive quickly.

  1. Volkswagen

Based on the last couple of years of data from the Georgia shop, the fifth priciest car brand to maintain is none other than the Wolfsburg giant itself, Volkswagen. The average repair order for Volkswagen vehicles was over $1,000. Of course, that’s just the average. As such, Sherwood pointed out that some orders could be “$200 and some could be $6,000.”
