One experienced mechanic gets a little emotional about Jeep models that he warns people to buy. But at least this isn’tbased on pure emotions. He also has a few facts to back up his claims as a long-time auto repair shop owner.
An experienced mechanic warns drivers about 4 Jeep models
Mike Winter, the long-time owner of MDP Diesel and Auto Repair in Jackson Michigan, shared a list of SUVs that people should never buy.
Four Jeep models, including the Jeep Grand Cherokee, Jeep Wagoneer, Jeep Wrangler, and Jeep Gladiator made this list.
According to Consumer Reports, these Grand Cherokee and Grand Cherokee L are included on the list of the 10 least-reliable cars for 2024. Jeep ranks as the worst automaker out of 34 brands.
However, this information is based on surveys given to paid subscribers and could have a very small pull. I recommended taking their scores with a grain of salt.
But Winter shared that the Cherokee has electrical issues, transmission problems, and high rates of oil consumption. He also believes that the Grand Cherokee and Wagoneer are overpriced with a terrible depreciation rate.

According to Winter, the Jeep Wrangler and Gladiator don’t have the best engine longevity. They are designed for off-roading so drivers beat them up and then complain about their performance on the pavement.
Common complaints include how the vehicles are loud and are prone to swaying. Plus, the soft-top roof might leak in the rain.
According to J.D.Power, the Wrangler, Wagoneer, and Grand Cherokee each have average reliability scores between 74 and 80. But the Gladiator has an above-average score of 87.
The Wrangler has a poor driving experience, but the other models have above-average scores. Also, each model has an above-average resale value. So, perhaps Mike Winter is just tired of hearing people complain.
