A new federal investigation has been launched to investigate engine failure in Chevrolet trucks and SUVs. The engine could be faulty in vehicles manufactured from 2019 to 2024. The problem could be related to connecting rods.

Chevrolet trucks and SUVs are being investigated for engine failure

There could be a massive recall on the way for Chevrolet trucks and SUVs due to engine failure. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has officially launched a federal investigation related to the matter.

This may impact over 877,000 trucks and SUVs produced between 2019 and 2024. Each model is equipped with the 6.2-liter L87 engine. The potent V8 engine cranks out 420 hp and 460 lb-ft of torque.

Vehicles at risk include the following:

  • Chevy Silverado
  • GMC Sierra
  • Chevy Tahoe
  • GMC Yukon
  • Chevy Suburban
  • GMC Yukon XL
  • Cadillac Escalade

The problem is related to connecting rod bearings that may fail and cause an abrupt loss of engine power. The NHTSA has received 39 complaints related to the matter. Some drivers also mentioned that the connecting rods broke through the engine block.

Now the NHTSA is looking into how often these failures occur and the associated safety risk. The agency will determine if there is a safety-related defect that requires fixing. It may spur a massive recall.

On a positive note, there are no reports of accidents, injuries, deaths, or fires related to the potential issue.

General Motors is cooperating with the investigation and encourages drivers to report problems to the NHTSA. Also, if your engine shows any signs of unusual behavior, visit a General Motors dealership for service.
