Everyone knows the most essential feature Tesla vehicles possess is playing video games. As of right now, there’s a solid mixture of basic games and a few legit AAA-quality titles available on Tesla. However, according to a recent tweet by Elon Musk, Tesla is working on making all Steam games play on Tesla. This would be monumental for the number of games available, and it’s going to be in the Cybertruck.

Elon Musk wants every Steam game playable on Tesla

While answering questions on Twitter recently, Tesla CEO Elon Musk revealed some exciting information. Not only does the company want to make more video games playable on their vehicle’s platform, but it also wants to make the entire Steam catalog available. According to CarScoops, he then doubled down on the idea, promising to include it on the Cybertruck when it eventually becomes available. This is not the first (and won’t be the last) time Musk has made significant announcements via Twitter. His company does not have a PR team, so there is nothing new to see here.

“We’re working through the general case of making Steam games work on Tesla vs. specific titles. Former is obviously where we should be long-term,” Elon Musk said on Twitter. After a tweet from the popular video game Cyberpunk 2077, Musk responded simply, “Great game.” That’s when IGN executive editor and host of Ride The Lightning: Tesla’s unofficial podcast Ryan McCaffrey asked, “New Model X/S version of Cyberpunk when?” This is what got Musk’s above response.

What games are currently available on Tesla?

There are plenty of games available to play inside Tesla vehicles. They range from ’80s arcade and Atari classics to modern masterpieces. Games like Tempest, Super Breakout, Missile Command, and Millipede are all available. Simple games like Solitaire, Backgammon, and Chess are also available. Most importantly, the high-quality modern games library on the automaker’s vehicles are better than you’d expect. Cuphead, Stardew Valley, Beach Buggy Racing 2, Battle of Polytopia, and more are popular choices on the Tesla gaming platform.

The last few games are ones created for consoles and PC in recent years. Titles like Cuphead and Stardew Valley are fan-favorite, award-winning games. However, none of them are particularly graphically demanding. Can a Tesla run a game requiring as much power as Cyberpunk 2077? Owners can play Cyberpunk 2077 and The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt in the Tesla Model S Plaid version. According to PC Mag, Elon Musk even said it’ll run at 60 frames per second.

How many games are on Steam?

If you aren’t familiar, Steam is a platform on which any game development company can publish their game. It’s the third-party digital store for every game that releases on PC. According to Steam DB, there are currently 111,295 games available on Steam. That’s an extensive catalog to have inside a car. We don’t expect Elon and the Tesla team to make every game available. There are loads of low-quality games released every day by people who simply flip game assets for profit. Tesla will likely prioritize mainstream AAA-quality titles like Cyberpunk 2077 and even Elden Ring.

Add the entire Steam library to the list of things the Cybertruck will have. In the last few years of the Tesla truck being delayed, we’ve seen Elon Musk promise a lot. Taking a page out of the Hummer EV’s book, the Cybertruck supposedly have crab-walking capabilities as well. What else can the Tesla CEO promise before the truck’s release? We look forward to finding out. For now, we’ll wait to play the entire Steam games library on our Tesla gaming platform.
