Chevy is the latest manufacturer to announce that it is bringing an EV truck to the market. With the Chevy Silverado EV, buyers can get the functionality of a full-size pickup truck with the benefits of an electric powertrain. The Silverado EV is not yet available, but Chevy is currently accepting reservations on this truck. So, what do we know about it so far, and is this an EV truck that is worth buying?

For the 2024 model year, Chevy does plan to introduce an EV truck in form of the Silverado EV. This model may look like a traditional full-size truck, but it is seriously modern underneath. The truck will come standard with all-wheel drive and is said to offer up to 664 horsepower. Which will provide buyers with ample power and performance.

Another fact about the Chevy Silverado EV is that it will have an estimated range of about 400 miles. And that will help to reduce range anxiety for this electric pickup truck. Chevy has not released all of the information for its new EV truck, but from what we know so far, it sounds fairly exciting. And, it will be good for the Ford F-150 Lightning to have some real competition on its hands.

Will the Chevy Silverado EV be able to tow?

In terms of towing capacity, the Silverado EV should be able to handle up to 10,000 pounds. Better yet, with this truck, buyers can expect a payload capacity of 1,3000 lbs. This adds to the overall practicality of this new EV.

The Silverado EV comes powered by two electric motors, according to Car and Driver, and it will come with four-wheel steering. This should improve the overall capability and performance that this truck has to offer. Other notable features include available adaptive air suspension, because of this, the height of the Chevy Silverado EV can be adjusted as needed.

When can you buy this EV truck?

The Silverado EV is not yet for sale, but Chevy is taking reservations for its new EV pickup truck. The truck will arrive for the 2024 model year, but we hope to see some go on sale at some point in 2023. With current supply chain issues and lack of new inventory, it would not be surprising if this full-size truck is available in limited numbers at first.

The Chevy EV is being built from the ground up. Which allows for optimization at nearly every level of construction. Better yet, like many modern vehicles, this truck will benefit from things like over-the-air updates. That way, potential bugs, and other issues can be corrected without needing to visit a dealership.

Should you reserve the 2024 Silverado EV?

If you are someone interested in an electric truck, the Silverado EV will certainly be a serious competitor. The Silverado 1500 has long been a popular truck in America, and that legacy will continue, even as alternative powertrains are explored.

As an EV truck with up to 660 hp and 780 lb-ft of torque, the Silverado EV does not compromise when it comes to power. And that will likely attract truck buyers who don’t mind foregoing a V8 in their full-size truck.
