People looking for the best cars to buy have several options. Naturally, one of the most significant aspects of a new or used car is the engine that powers it. Of course, Ford models with EcoBoost engines are a top choice because they’re widespread. Still, they have been the target of criticism from auto mechanics. Recently, one mechanic took to social media to detail why buyers should think twice about vehicles with this powerhouse. Notably, these engines have had a number of car recalls.

Auto mechanics don’t like EcoBoost engines

The car world couldn’t function without auto mechanics. Not only do they fix vehicles, but they also give advice to people looking for the best cars to buy. Recently, some mechanics from Royalty Auto Serice took to TikTok to discuss the Ford EcoBoost engines. In a nutshell, they don’t think these vehicles make for excellent choices. They even go as far as to say these are some of the worst vehicles a person could buy.

These auto mechanics first mention the Ford Escape SUV when discussing EcoBoost engines. As for why they’re unreliable, one problem they list is coolant intrusion. As they explain, this is when coolant gets into the cylinders, requiring expensive repairs. Next, they discuss the oil pump belts and how the design is problematic. Specifically, they say that these belts are notorious for failure.

These auto mechanics also briefly discuss the turbochargers on EcoBoost engines. Sadly, they are also prone to failure at higher rates than their rivals. They end the video by saying that the higher displacement EcoBoost engines also have issues with reliability.

Of course, there are plenty of Ford EcoBoost vehicles on the road today, and some people love them. Still, it should be noted that there have been a number of car recalls concerning problems with these engines.
