Drunk guy calls an Uber for a baby bird and sends it to a Utah wildlife center all by itself

A man in northern Utah found himself too tipsy to drive. Despite his condition, he was still determined to help an injured baby bird. So he did what anyone with a smartphone and a soft spot for animals might do. He called an Uber. For the bird.
Staff at the Wildlife Rehabilitation Center of Northern Utah said the guy had been out drinking with friends when he spotted a struggling lesser goldfinch on the ground. He wanted to assist, but knew he couldn’t get behind the wheel. Instead, he carefully placed the bird in a box, ordered a rideshare, and sent it to the wildlife center solo.
About an hour later, the Uber arrived with its single passenger
Center workers were surprised to find an Uber driver delivering a cardboard box containing a small, dehydrated bird. They named the feathered young’un “Petey” and started treatment.
When KWCH shared the story in 2019, the center’s director said Petey was underweight and weak but recovering well. He was expected to be released into the Utah wilds after a few weeks of rehab and bird-sized meals.
This isn’t the only report of an animal riding alone in an Uber
In 2017, a Gilbert, Arizona, Uber driver named Brandi found a nine-month-old pit bull named Honey left behind in her car after a ride. The passenger somehow got out and just left the puppy behind. Despite attempts to locate the owner, Brandi was unable to make contact. With guidance from Uber, she took the dog to a shelter.
Once she learned the dog might be euthanized, though, Brandi decided to adopt Honey herself. As per Maricopa County Animal Care and Control regulations, after six days of care, the Uber driver turned into the dog’s legal owner.
