Some people mess up. Then again, some folks take a “go big or go home” approach to messing up, like this drunk driver who followed a woman home and stabbed her after she confronted him for hitting a parked car. Worse yet, police found him to have a BAC of more than twice the legal limit.
A drunk driver with a BAC over 0.16% crashed into a parked car, and when a woman tried to stop him from fleeing, he stabbed her
Daniel Francisco Santiago, a native 27-year-old native of Willow Grove, Pennsylvania, was having a day. At around 9:30 p.m., Santiago allegedly crashed into a parked car with his sedan. Now, that happens. People hit things with their cars. But you expect accountability, especially when the responsible party is a drunk driver. Santiago reportedly wasn’t having that; he attempted to flee the scene.
But there was a hitch in his inebriated escape plan. A duo of bystanders witnessed the crash and confronted Santiago. Mind you, it’s not a good idea to confront a drunk, possibly agitated person. As you might expect, the interaction turned into an altercation.
The duo then left, and Santiago followed them to their home. He attacked one of them with a “cutting instrument,” leading to a slash wound on her head. Fortunately, an Allentown Police Department captain said she is likely to survive her wound, per Lehigh Valley Live.
Understandably, police took the drunk driver into custody after the alleged aggravated assault. He had a blood alcohol concentration of over 0.16% at the time of the incident. Now, the legal limit for drivers in the state of Pennsylvania is 0.08%. It’s the same figure you find in most of the United States, save for states like Utah, where the legal limit is 0.05%.
Frankly, in some states like Kentucky, officers can arrest a person with anything over a 0.04% BAC based on their discretion. So driving with a BAC of over 0.16% isn’t something that courts typically smile upon, even without the case of felony aggravated assault.
Unfortunately, the woman who sustained the injury was just trying to do the right thing when the criminal stabbed her. That said, resist the urge to confront drunk or disturbed motorists on the road. Instead, contact the authorities and relay as many helpful details as you can, like time, location, and descriptions of suspects and vehicles.
