Everyone knows the dangers of driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol. Sadly, many still do it, and it often causes devastating car wrecks. Now, one man has a lengthy prison sentence and owes over $1 million after causing an accident that left another driver with severe injuries that still impact him years later.

Not only did this man drive while under the influence, but he also caused a ton of harm

According to The South Bend Tribune, Ali Elammori, 34, was driving on the afternoon of June 11, 2022. He was on Indiana 933 when Thaias M. Burris, 27, ran a red light in his truck and hit him. Sadly, this was a pretty serious accident that caused severe injuries to Ali. Thaias later admitted that he had been driving while under the influence of alcohol before causing the wreck.

Regarding the injuries from the drunk driving accident, the man had numerous broken bones. This includes three ribs, his sternum, and his kneecap, etc. Since driving while under the influence, he’s been serving a prison sentence in Pendleton, Indiana. Ali also brought about a civil suit against the drunk driver, which went to trial last month. He won and now owes $1.758 million for medical expenses and pain.

Like with many car wrecks that result from someone driving while under the influence, Ali still has severe pain today. He says he has trouble standing, driving for long periods, etc. Regarding the driver, the earliest he will be out of prison is 2035. This is another reminder to drivers that consuming drugs or alcohol before getting behind the wheel is never okay.
