Rhode Island driver has severe injuries after ice crashed through her windshield
Everyone knows that driving in the snow is more dangerous than being on the road in other circumstances. However, sometimes the issue isn’t the roads themselves. Instead, drivers must be aware of the damage falling snow can cause. This happened recently in Rhode Island, and now one driver has a head injury.
Driving in the snow brings with it several unique obstacles
This winter has been especially harsh, which means many are tasked with driving in the snow. According to NBC Boston, two people, a husband and a wife, were driving in the snow in Cranston, Rhode Island, recently when the unthinkable happened. They were on I-95 when a large sheet of snow fell from a tractor-trailer. However, it landed on the windshield of their car and crashed through it. This is said to have resulted from a strong wind blowing the snow off the vehicle.
Regarding the unfortunate encounter while driving in the snow, the husband said, “It was like four inches thick, probably like four feet long. It disappeared over our car, and the bottom of it still managed to hit the windshield and just smash right through. It was kind of like a bomb hit the windshield.” Sadly, the wife sustained injuries and had to be taken to the hospital. They treated her for chest contusions, a head injury, various bruising, and other things such as a split lip.
As for the tractor-trailer driver, the report says that they pulled over after realizing what happened. Notably, it’s not up to the individual truck drivers to remove snow from the vehicles. Instead, the company typically ensures that this occurs during the winter. Now, local police aren’t only warning about the dangers of driving in the snow. Instead, they are also sounding the alarm about the hazards of driving with snow or ice on vehicles. Many states make this practice illegal. Regarding the injuries, the woman is expected to make a full recovery.
