We aren’t asking what’s going on with the Ram 1500, we are asking what’s happening with its drivers. The Ram 1500 serves as the truck with the most reckless driving citations. But this seems like a random stat, and we want to know why this truck attracts reckless drivers.

The Ram 1500 has the most reckless driver citations

According to Insurify, the Ram 1500 is the truck with the most reckless driving citations. The baseline for any model is about 15 out of 10,000 drivers with at least one incident of reckless driving on their record.

But the popular Ram truck experiences drivers at a rate of 46 per 10,000 with reckless driving infractions. The Chevy K1500 ranks at 56 people with infractions out of 10,000 drivers. But we aren’t counting this model because it has been discontinued.

Interestingly, the full-size Ram truck is only the third most popular truck in the United States. The most popular truck is the Ford F-150, and it didn’t make it on the top 10 list. So why are truck owners more likely to be reckless in the Ram than the Ford?

Ram trucks have the most DUIs too

Another study from Insurify collected data from 2.7 million insurance applications to determine which vehicles have the most drivers that have been cited for DUIs. The Ram 2500 tops the list with the most offenders.

Now we have citations for a much larger vehicle than the Ram 1500. The national average is about 19 drivers per 1,000 vehicle owners. But about 45.3 drivers out of 1,000 for the Ram 2500 have DUI citations.

There are a lot of massive trucks out there, like the Ford F-350 and Chevy Silverado 2500. So what makes the Ram 2500 more attractive to those with DUIs? We are struggling to find a correlation between bad driving habits and their truck choices.

Are Ram trucks safe?

The 2021 Ram 1500 is an Insurance Institute Highway Safety (IIHS) Top Safety Pick. This award only applies to vehicles with optional front crash prevention and specific headlights. The LED projector lights with high-beam assist are the ones that achieved this award.

The Halogen reflector and LED reflector headlights received a marginal or poor rating. They provide inadequate illumination around curves and may create glare.

Other than that, this truck scored a good rating in each crashworthiness test. This is the highest rating a vehicle can receive. However, it scored a marginal rating for how easy child seats are to install.

The lowest rating is poor. Anyways, the tether anchor seems to be in a hard-to-find location and could be confused for other hardware. The Lower anchors sit too deep in the seat but are easy to attach.

Key safety features for the Ram 1500 include available blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, automatic high beams, emergency braking, and lane-keeping assistance. So, it is a safe truck.

Again, it’s not the truck’s fault. There is just something about a few of the drivers, and that’s pretty perplexing. We also know that there are plenty of safe drivers out there that don’t have any infractions.
