Driver’s Ed instructor orders student to complete bizarre errands, “I think I was accessory to something illegal…”
Most drivers will never forget the excitement of first getting their license, the terror of first taking their test, or the awkwardness of having to log practice hours with a complete stranger–their Driver’s Ed instructor. But one driver took to Reddit to describe a Driver’s Ed experience that was much more awkward than your average class.
A Reddit user admitted, “I’m taking my driver’s test later this week and am nervous. I kind of want to make myself feel better.” So they asked the AskReddit forum, “Reddit, what are your Drivers Ed/ Driving Test stories? Did anything go terribly wrong? [Serious].”
Many of the answers were priceless. But one commenter had the most intriguing story by far. They said they were cruising around with their driver’s ed instructor, just trying to log enough hours, when the teacher told them to get off the road. Then to loop through a drive through restaurant. Wendy’s to be exact.
To be blunt, I’ve heard of students and instructors agreeing to do drive through together. And it’s probably good practice. But it seems a slightly odd thing to spring on your student. And the story gets weirder.
Then the instructor asked, “Do you want anything.” The flustered student said, “No.” The instructor said, “Good, cause I only have enough [money] for my food.”
Firstly, isn’t the Driver’s Ed instructor supposed to be the adult in this situation–the one with a paying job? And secondly, what did they plan to do if the student was hungry? Split an order of fries?
Things get even stranger.
After the fast food run, the instructor told the student to go to a random house. She told the student driver it was her “friend’s” house and to wait while she ran inside “real quick.”
At this point, the student was terrified. To this day, they still think they were an “accessory to something illegal.”
Normally, I’d say this was just a strange Facebook Marketplace buy. But we’ve already established the instructor didn’t have any money left after their Wendy’s meal. So who knows?
This Redditor’s driver test story is almost as bizarre. But the good news is they passed and got their license after all the drama. You can see the original comment embedded below:
