Shopping for a new SUV that is at-home both on and off the road? If so, the 2022 Toyota 4Runner has likely caught your attention. But with eight unique trim levels, finding the proper Toyota SUV for your needs may be a difficult task. For off-road enthusiasts, getting something from the factory that is ready to handle the road less traveled may be an attractive option. But you do not have to splurge on the Toyota 4Runner TRD Pro in order to get sought-after off-road features.

With a starting price of $41,435, the Toyota 4Runner TRD Off-Road comes in at $10,000 less than the top-trim Toyota 4Runner. All the while, off-road features are still delivered with this model. From its 4.0-liter V6 engine to a locking rear differential, this is a vehicle that offers the capability that buyers have come to expect from the legendary 4Runner.

What off-road features does the 2022 Toyota 4Runner TRD Off-Road have?

A number of off-road tech features are offered with this Toyota model. One of these is an advanced multi-terrain system that makes adjustments as needed. Toyota Crawl Control will adjust the throttle and brakes on five low-speed settings. This means while off-roading, drivers can focus more on steering and navigating harsh terrain.

Additionally, this model boasts a part-time four-wheel-drive system. Which will deliver power to all four wheels. Allowing for maximum traction and control. Notable as well is a locking rear differential, which, according to MotorTrend, decreases the risk of losing traction.

When things get muddy, the Toyota 4Runner TRD Off-Road features TRD Off-Road floor mats. Because of this, cleaning out the 4Runner will be an easier task after an off-road adventure.

While the Toyota 4Runner TRD Off-Road may not offer all of the safety tech available to this model, it does feature an advanced safety package. This features things like lane departure alert as well as rear occupancy alert.

This Toyota SUV also comes standard with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Meaning drivers can connect their mobile devices directly to their vehicle.

While the Toyota 4Runner TRD Pro boasts Bilstein shocks, the Toyota 4Runner TRD Off-Road does not come up short in its suspension. The available Kinetic Dynamic Suspension System has the ability to adjust front and rear stabilizers through a set of interconnected hydraulic cylinders.

For many drivers, this system is more than enough to handle off-road scenarios. If more capability is needed, the stock shocks can always be replaced with something more robust. Whether it be a Stage 2 Icon suspension or KING suspension, upgrading will likely be cheaper than purchasing the TRD Pro.

In terms of unique TRD Pro bling and accessories, these can always be added to a different 4Runner model depending on preference. The 4Runner lends itself to being highly customizable and has a thriving aftermarket community. It is factors like this that make the Toyota 4Runner such a mainstay among off-road enthusiasts and adventurers.
