The midsize SUV segment is pretty competitive. At this point, there are a ton of options to pick from. But when it comes to the 2021 Nissan Murano and this year’s new Hyundai Santa Fe? Well, we suggest looking no further than the 2021 Hyundai Santa Fe.

The 2021 Hyundai Santa Fe is the more fuel-efficient option

At the heart of the 2021 Hyundai Santa Fe is a new 2.5-liter turbocharged engine. Featuring Idle, Stop and Go (ISG) capability, this all-new engine was designed to maximize efficiency even in heavy traffic conditions. According to the EPA, Hyundai was able to do just that. This year’s new Hyundai Santa Fe is able to deliver an EPA-estimated 25 mpg in the city and 28 mpg on the highway.

As for the Nissan Murano? It’s not expected to be quite as thrifty as the Hyundai Santa Fe when it comes to fuel. While the EPA has yet to post final numbers for this year’s model, they are definitely worth keeping in mind. When equipped with its standard V6 engine, the 2020 Nissan Murano delivered an EPA-estimated 20 mpg in the city and 28 mpg on the highway. According to Car and Driver, its 2021 test model delivered similar fuel economy results too.

It’s able to tow more than the Nissan Murano too

Maybe fuel economy ratings aren’t all that impressive to you. Maybe you find how much a vehicle can tow to be the most impressive. If that’s the case, then prepare to be impressed by the 2021 Hyundai Santa Fe. This year’s model comes outfitted with tow-ready features such as Trailer Sway Control. It also comes equipped for up to 3,500-pounds of heavy-duty towing.

The 2021 Nissan Murano, on the other hand, can’t tow quite as much. In fact, when compared to the Hyundai Santa Fe, the Nissan Murano isn’t even close. While the Hyundai Santa Fe comes outfitted to tow up to 3,500-pounds, the 2021 Nissan Murano is only able to manage a maximum towing capacity of 1,500-pounds.

The Hyundai Santa Fe’s warranty is pretty hard to beat

Much like all Hyundai models, the new Santa Fe comes standard with the automaker’s pretty extensive warranty. All new Santa Fe models come standard with a 10-year/100,000-mile powertrain limited warranty, a five-year/60,000-mile new vehicle limited warranty, and a seven-year/unlimited perforation warranty. This year’s model also comes standard with unlimited roadside assistance for five years, and complimentary maintenance for three years or 36,000-miles.

Unfortunately for Nissan buyers, the Murano’s warranty just can’t beat that of the 2021 Hyundai Santa Fe’s. Instead, the 2021 Nissan Murano comes standard with a three-year/36,000-mile limited warranty and a five-year/60,000-mile limited warranty for its powertrain components.

Is the Hyundai Santa Fe better than the Nissan Murano?

Yes. Especially if you’re in the market for a vehicle that will make the most out of every mile that you put into it, and can tow a pretty hefty amount. Oh, and of course, don’t forget about the 2021 Hyundai Santa Fe’s standard warranty. Take all of that into consideration, and yes, the Hyundai Santa Fe is probably a better pick than the new Nissan Murano.
