It’s hard to decide which vehicle is right for you with the multitude of options available and each model having something unique to offer.

Two of the noteworthy contenders in the class are the 2021 Ford Escape and the 2021 Subaru Forester. While both models are a good choice, when compare each side by side, the Subaru Forester is more deserving of your attention.

What the 2021 Ford Escape and Subaru Forester have to offer

Both SUVs are affordably priced, coming in at just under $25,000 for the entry-level base models.

The Forester has a standard 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine that puts out 182 hp in all its trim levels. In comparison, the Ford Escape has a smaller 1.5-liter engine that outputs 180 hp in its base model. A larger 2-liter turbocharged powertrain that churns 250 hp is an available option in the higher trim levels.

The Subaru Forester also offers better fuel economy, getting an estimated 28 mpg compared to the 26 mpg in the Ford Escape (per Consumer Reports test).

There is also considerably more room for passengers and cargo in the Forester, with past owners of the Ford Escape finding the limited space in the back row cumbersome.

Is the 2021 Subaru Forester a good car?

Consumer Reports gave the 2021 Ford Escape an overall score of 46 out of 100. This is rather dismal compared to the 89 out of 100 score given to the 2021 Subaru Forester.
