Donald Trump pledges to buy a Tesla, calling the nationwide boycott the work of ‘lunatics’
Elon Musk’s Tesla isn’t doing so hot lately. The DOGE head and electric car manufacturer CEO admitted recently that his government activities have harmed his business interests. One of the latest hits to Musk’s businesses are worldwide Tesla boycotts, sapping sales and hurting the brand’s bottom line. However, Tesla reportedly has a new, high-profile customer, President Donald Trump.
President Donald Trump says he’ll buy a Tesla immediately as a show of support for Elon Musk as widespread boycotts continue
President Donald Trump announced that he’ll be adding a Tesla to his lineup of past and present cars. “I’m going to buy a brand new Tesla tomorrow morning as a show of confidence and support for Elon Musk, a truly great American,” POTUS said of the South African-born businessman on Truth Social. The president then goes on to question, “Why should he be punished for putting his tremendous skills to work in order to help MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN?”
The president went on to suggest that the boycotts of Musk’s electric car marque are “illegally and collusively” the work of “radical left lunatics.” He is, of course, wrong. Boycotting a business is well within the First Amendment rights of the American consumer. It’s a line in the sand, and a clear demonstration, but not illegal.
Even if President Donald Trump purchases a Tesla, he won’t be allowed to drive it. Every sitting and former president is entitled to United States Secret Service protection for life. That means motorcades while in the office, and protective details with official drivers after the next POTUS takes over.
Currently, one of the most frequent ways for a president to get around on the street is the hulking armored Cadillac limousine, also referred to as “The Beast.” It’s a monstrous limo tipping the scales at 15,000 or more lbs. Although we know The Beast is armored with run-flat tires and weapons, many of the details surrounding the presidential limousine are classified. Although, who knows? Perhaps we’ll see a stretched Tesla Model S with the presidential seal plastered on the side. I hope not, though. “Tesla One” just doesn’t have the same ring to it.
