Sometimes your dogs might drive you crazy by seeming to bark at nothing. However, police officers were in for a surprise when barking dogs led to the discovery of a dead body outside a gas station in North Carolina.

Barking dogs lead police officers to dead body in gas station

In the middle of the night, North Carolina police officers responded to complaints of barking dogs from neighbors who lived around a rural gas station

The Pitt County Sheriff’s Office shared that the officers discovered a dead body beside a Travel Store gas station on Clarks Neck Rd. It was abandoned a few hours earlier in the night.

The cause of death for 37-year-old Lijena Victoria Hickman of New Bern hasn’t been released. But detectives learned she was riding with her friend, 24-year-old Saraya Dejana Richardson before her body was discovered.

A car with both women arrived at the gas station around 3:40 AM. According to News Observer, Hickman died shortly after that. There are no records of Richardson calling authorities to report an emergency or incident.

Richardson was arrested and charged with one felony count of concealing and or failing to report a death. She’s currently out on bond. It’s unclear if she’s a suspect in the murder case.

There is currently an ongoing investigation and we will have to wait to learn more. However, do the dogs get any type of credit for alerting people to the body? It would have been discovered in the parking lot during the daylight, probably.
