Toyota has finally introduced a fully electric vehicle, the 2023 Toyota bZ4X crossover SUV. It’s to be expected that a new EV would have certain tech features and amenities that have become almost standard in new cars, and the bZ4X does not disappoint in that regard. But does the 2023 Toyota bZ4X have Android Auto?

Overview of Toyota’s first mass-produced EV

The standard single-motor, front-wheel-drive 2023 Toyota bZ4X can travel an estimated 252 miles on a full charge. This model produces 201 hp and 196 lb-ft of torque and can accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in 7.1 seconds, Toyota claims.

For $2,080 extra, a two-motor, all-wheel-drive version boosts the power to 214 hp and 248 lb-ft of torque. Naturally, this model boasts quicker acceleration — from 0 to 60 mph in about 6.5 seconds — but sacrifices range. Toyota estimates the AWD Toyota bZ4X can go 228 miles on a full charge.

Toyota offers two trim levels for the bZ4X: XLE and Limited. The standard 2023 Toyota bZ4X XLE starts at $43,335, and the Limited starts at $48,035. Both trims can come with FWD or AWD, and the Limited has upgrades such as heated and ventilated seats.

Android smartphone users can connect their devices to the 2023 Toyota bZ4X through Android Auto. The bZ4X features a 12.1-inch touchscreen infotainment system known as the Toyota Audio Multimedia display. Once a user connects their Android device, they can use the EV’s center touchscreen to control their phone’s functions.

Android Auto is a way to connect an Android device to a car. It allows drivers to make calls, send texts, listen to music, and use other functions without having to look at their phones. When a phone is connected through Android Auto, the car infotainment display shows the phone’s screen, and users can control the phone through the car’s touchscreen or voice commands.

Connecting an Android device to a vehicle is fairly standard across makes and models. According to Kelley Blue Book, users should start by searching for the Android Auto app on their Android phone. Once they have checked for updates to the app, they can plug the phone into the car to begin setting up the connection. Android Auto functions wirelessly, but setting it up requires a wired connection. From here, the process is a matter of following prompts on the phone and car’s touchscreen. Once this process is complete, a driver can use Android Auto with their 2023 Toyota bZ4X.

The 2023 Toyota bZ4X has other useful tech features

Android Auto is only one of many tech features in the Toyota bZ4X. For iPhone users, the bZ4X includes Apple CarPlay, which operates like Android Auto but for Apple devices. However, iPhone users in the bZ4X may connect Apple CarPlay wirelessly, while Android Auto users must pair their devices through a wired connection.

Toyota bZ4X drivers can subscribe to Wi-Fi Connect for their car, which connects the bZ4X to 4G and acts as a hotspot for five devices at once. With this service, a user can also connect their music subscription from services such as Apple Music to the bZ4X.

Technology in the 2023 bZ4X also makes the EV safer through the Toyota Safety Sense advanced driver assistance system. Features include cyclist and motorcyclist detection, blind-spot monitoring, automatic emergency braking, and lane-keep assist.
