With its serious 450 hp twin-turbo V6 engine, the Ford Raptor is nothing to be messed with. It can haul up to 8,000 pounds, and generally dominates any road it travels down. But does it come with a manual transmission option? If you’re curious about the Ford Raptor, we’ve got you covered. Here’s what you need to know about this seriously powerful pickup truck.

Transmission options

Unfortunately for fans of manual transmissions, the Raptor doesn’t offer this as an option — but there is an automatic transmission option with a manual mode. The Raptor’s standard transmission option is also pretty customizable; it conserves fuel with a 10-speed automatic transmission and three overdrive gears. Drivers can choose between four transmission modes: EcoSelect, Snow-Wet, Tow-Haul, Normal, and Sport. This versatility makes for a better driving experience despite the lack of a fully manual option.

It’s worth noting that, according to Car and Driver, the Raptor can sometimes struggle to land on the right gear. In general, though, the turbocharged engine is a real workhorse, and there are no serious problems with the way it drives. It can go from 0 mph to 60 mph in just 5.1 seconds, and the newest model even has an auto stop/start feature to save gas.

Infotainment and tech options

The Raptor isn’t just a work vehicle — it also comes fully decked out with a touchscreen infotainment system known as Sync 3. This eight inch LCD screen has pinch-to-zoom capabilities and can be integrated with your smart devices. It also lets you go hands free with a voice activated navigation system. While the voice commands and available apps vary depending on your software, the Sync 3 is compatible with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto — although the response time for these is somewhat slow, according to Car and Driver.

The Raptor also comes with a number of other features. It has a WiFi hotspot, power steering, and a backup camera. For added convenience, it also allows you to remotely start the engine with your smart device. Drivers who want even more features have the option to add rain sensing wipers, a remote trunk release, keyless start, and adaptive cruise control.

Safety features

The Raptor has good crash-test ratings, and it offers a number of safety features for drivers. Its main driver-assistance technologies are lane departure warnings, lane keeping assistance, automated emergency braking, and forward collision warning. Other standard safety features include brake assist, traction control, and daytime running lights.

The Raptor also has quite a few optional safety features. These include rear cross-traffic alert, blind-spot monitors, integrated turn signal mirrors, and an SOS Post-Crash Alert System.

Powerful but comfortable

There’s no denying that the Raptor is immensely powerful. It can carry up to 1,200 pounds in its bed and can tow up to 8,000 pounds. While it is certainly an effective work vehicle, though, the Raptor doesn’t sacrifice comfort. Depending on how you intend to use the truck, you can customize its interior to make it significantly cozier. Some available options include heated front seats, a heated steering wheel, and a power passenger seat.

The Raptor also offers optional leather seating surfaces and a range of unique color options. Standard with the vehicle are bucket seats and lumbar support for both passenger and driver. The Raptor also has excellent storage space and can carry 52.8 cubic feet of cargo.

Although drivers looking for a fully manual transmission option may be disappointed, the Ford Raptor does still offer plenty of great features and a conveniently customizable powertrain. Overall, it’s a great option for anyone who wants a comfortable work truck in a luxury trim.
