Chevy is a legendary automaker that has brought us vehicles like the Corvette, the Trailblazer, and the Silverado. Each has won awards in its own division and has drivers so loyal it’s almost blasphemous to mention driving a Ford or a Dodge.

That’s why it’s so surprising that Chevy would put out something as lackluster as the Chevrolet Trax. Critics have little good to say about it, beyond the fact that it has a decent Infotainment system. Thankfully, it does include both Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. What else do we know about this SUV?

Chevrolet Trax infotainment system

The Chevy Trax has a decent enough Infotainment system, but it’s a far cry from systems like the ones Tesla plans to bring out. For example, Elon Musk is planning to add both Netflix and YouTube to several of the Tesla models. You definitely won’t be getting anything like that from the Trax, but there are a few cool features.

One of the best features, and perhaps it’s only few redeeming qualities, is a 4G Wi-Fi hotspot. For business people on the go or soccer moms with lots of kids to keep entertained, this might be enough to tempt them to at least test drive the Trax.

As already mentioned, you’ll also get Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. With these, you can listen to your favorite music, talk to your loved ones hands free, or listen to the news.

MyChevrolet mobile app

The one thing that may set the Trax apart from other sub-compact SUVs is the myChevrolet mobile app. According to Chevrolet, the myChevrolet mobile app allows you to take more control of your car when you aren’t in it, and it actually has some rather clever features that other automakers could learn a thing or two from.

If you’ve ever had to step out of your car while the kids are inside, and they lock the doors as a joke, it’s no longer a problem. With a swipe of your phone, the doors will be unlocked, and you can get back inside.

For those who live in cold climates, you can also start up your car so it begins defrosting. This means you’ll no longer have to bundle up, run out into the freezing temperatures, and crank up your car. Another perk is that you’ll no longer have to scrape ice off the windshield.

Finally, you can keep track of your car maintenance by checking the app. It will tell you if your tire pressure is too low, if the oil needs to be changed, or if the fuel levels in your car are low. For those of us who struggle to remember these tasks, it’s nice to have a reminder on the phone, where it’s harder to ignore than the dashboard that we rarely look at.

The final feature revolves around Amazon. For many people who aren’t always at home or have to travel for their jobs, buying from Amazon may be a pain. You order a package, and it’s delivered to your house just as promised. The only problem is that you can’t get home to pick it up for days at a time.

You might have neighbors who you trust to hold on to your precious cargo, but that’s not the case for everyone. Chevy and Amazon have teamed up to have packages delivered straight to your car. Amazon will place the package safely inside your trunk, and you don’t have to panic about getting home to retrieve it. This isn’t available everywhere yet, but if it proves to be successful, it will probably spread to other cities and towns.

Critics are not in love with the Chevrolet Trax

Critics are definitely not in love with the Chevrolet Trax. In fact, you could go so far as to say they flat out hate it. Car and Driver hinted that the Trax handles just fine in parking lots, but lacks the acceleration power needed to merge or pass in traffic.

U.S. News took it a step further and said that there are so few updates, you should buy a used 2017 Trax rather than the 2020, The reason behind this is that both are so similar, and the 2017 is cheaper. Edmunds likes how roomy the Trax is, but says this is overshadowed by a rough ride.

Overall, if you enjoy a lot of technology, the Chevy Trax might be worth giving a shot. If you don’t care about having Amazon deliver packages straight to your car, or you have a job that requires you to jump on the freeway often, you might want to go with the Honda HR-V or the Mazda CX-3.
