Does the Chevrolet Silverado Have Apple CarPlay?

Since the very beginning, Chevy designed their trucks with their customers in mind. They tweak their motors and transmissions to optimize a truck’s performance, so die-hard Chevy pickup fans won’t get disappointed. Technology features are no different. Chevy continues to offer the latest in technological equipment as they develop new features for their vehicles.

Now that we’re in an age where our phones seem indispensable, pickups are getting on board and finding innovative ways to integrate them into the truck’s technology. One of the recent features making a splash in the market is Apple’s CarPlay application that’s merged into the vehicle’s infotainment system. Is the Silverado one of those that offer this fairly new feature?

Apple CarPlay is an integrative connective technology that allows iPhone users to connect to the vehicle’s infotainment system. You can access the apps on your phone from the media display screen, so you can customize your riding experience with apps you’re more familiar with. People often use it to listen to their favorite podcasts, play their personalized music playlists or send messages to other friends and family.

The Chevy Silverado comes with the capability to access Apple CarPlay by connecting an iPhone to the truck’s infotainment system, using Apple’s phone cord. You’re able to sign in to the CarPlay app to use the features of your phone without taking your eyes off the road or the steering wheel for too long. However, General Motors doesn’t offer a wireless way to connect the iPhone to your truck’s media display. You have to use the cord.

Will General Motors bring a wireless version of CarPlay to the Chevy Silverado?

According to the GM Authority blog, General Motors has no plans on announcing any wireless connectivity feature to access Apple’s CarPlay from any of their vehicles. A wireless option would allow drivers, who don’t have their phones handy, to still access the connective feature from the display screen, using a wireless connection instead of a cord.

Getting wireless for the Apple CarPlay, soon, looks pretty bleak. The Verge reported that General Motors plans to incorporate an Android Auto operating system into the media display starting in 2021. That means that Google apps will play a dominant role in their infotainment system. Since Android and Apple are rivals, it seems the CarPlay may continue needing an iPhone physically plugged in, to access all of its features, at least for now.

What other Connective features does the Silverado have?

The Chevy Silverado comes with their famous in-vehicle Marketplace system. You can order food from restaurants, navigate to your destination, or even find the nearest gas station, with your choice of fuel, all within GM’s new application. While this system has few businesses integrated into the app, at this time, they plan to keep expanding and adding new ones frequently in the next few years.

The Silverado also has the 4G LTE WiFi hotspot available, with a prepaid plan. Your passengers can access the internet to play games, read books, or watch movies to pass the time while you travel to your destination. Business owners and contractors can handle their everyday work tasks by setting up meetings or bidding on potential projects while they’re on the go.

The Chevy Silverado has the connectivity features that modern drivers and passengers need in a pickup truck. Apple’s CarPlay is one of them and it’s a sight most iPhone users want to see. Hopefully, though, General Motors will take this application to the next level soon, so they can enjoy access to their personal items using a wireless connection instead of having to plug in their phone.
