It seems like the 2021 Jeep Wrangler 4xe is on the back burner. More attention has been on the Jeep Wrangler Rubicon 392 and Jeep Gladiator. But does the 2021 Jeep Wrangler 4xe deserve more attention? Does it have enough range to be worth buying?

Is the 2021 Jeep Wrangler 4xe worth buying?

Yes, the 2021 Jeep Wrangler 4xe is an excellent hybrid option. It will allow you to quietly go off-roading and enjoy the sounds of nature that may have been drowned out by your old gas-powered model.

But the Wrangler 4xe has a lower range than expected. According to Auto Blog, Jeep estimated that the 4xe would have a 25-mile electric range. However, after testing, the 4xe only has an EPA estimated 21-mile electric range. So, Jeep missed the mark by four mpg.

This number sounds pretty low, but it’s an excellent number for daily drivers. The average American drives less than 21 miles to work every day. So, this range should provide enough juice for most of your regular driving needs.

The EPA estimated combined fuel economy is rated at 20 mpg. This is what you’ll get after the battery has been totally depleted. But that’s when it’s acting as a regular gas-powered Jeep. When the battery is charged, you should get an estimated 49 MPGe.

Does the Wrangler 4xe have a better fuel economy than rivals?

When the 2021 Jeep Wrangler 4xe is out of battery power, it suffers from its weight like most PHEVs do. The extra weight from the battery pack and electric motor can bring its ratings down. So, the 20 mpg shouldn’t be a surprise.

The standard four-door Wrangler with the 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine gets an EPA estimated 22 mpg. When paired with the V6 motor, it gets about 21 mpg. The Jeep Wrangler EcoDisel gets about 25 mpg, and Rubicon 392 gets about 14 mpg.

Keep your Jeep Wrangler hybrid charged to take full advantage of its fuel economy. With a level 2 charger, you can fully replenish the battery in about two hours. You can also charge it in about 2.5 hours if you drive between 45 to 55 mph with the battery recharge mode enabled. This uses the engine to recharge the battery.

With the level 1 charger (120-volt), which is included, it takes about 12 hours to recharge fully. Also, the Jeep Wrangler 4xe will default to 0.25G of regen force from all four wheels. You can select Max Regen’ to increase the regen force. Jeep 4xe drivers are expected to save at least $1,750 per year in fuel costs compared to other Wrangler models.
