Does the Ford Maverick Tremor Help the City Truck Off-Road?
We keep hearing the Ford Maverick be described as the city truck. That makes sense. It is tiny and can fit in tight parking spots. But how capable is this urban ride for adventuring? Does the Ford Maverick Tremor actually have off-roading upgrades?
What comes with the Ford Maverick Tremor?
The Ford Maverick Tremor is an off-roading appearance package, so it comes with a few crucial upgrades and a bolder look. Depending on how you feel, it could look mean or cute.
Anyways, it kicks things off with a 1.0-inch suspension lift which raises the ground clearance to 9.4 inches, and that’s excellent. It also has a unique off-road-tuned front and rear suspension with an advanced AWD system that includes a 4×4 lock.
Unique springs and shocks bolster off-roading capabilities and are paired with a heavy-duty transmission cooler and enhanced half shafts. It rides on 17-inch wheels wrapped in all-terrain tires and features steel skid plates.
The Trail Control system acts as off-roading cruise control. Also, the five off-roading modes are for Snow, Mud, Sand, Pavement, and Towing.
The appearance is enhanced by orange tow hooks, a unique grille, and an upgraded fender vent. The logos, headlamps, and tail lamps are blacked-out.
Can the Maverick Tremor go off-roading?
Yes, the Ford Maverick Tremor is well-equipped to tackle the trails, but it’s not the best. Autopian shared that while it has an excellent 30.7-degree approach angle, the 19.9-degree break-over angle and 22.2-degree departure angle aren’t great.
Be sure to take a close look at every obstacle and have your spotters ready before attempting to climb over anything. But the 4×4 lock should provide extra traction for getting out of slick mud and ruts.
The front bumper has black plastic that could be easy to scrape, but the steel skid plates protect the transmission and fuel tank. Other components feel vulnerable, and the exhaust hands down a little low.
But on a positive note, the advanced AWD system includes a twin-clutch rear-wheel-drive unit that can divert rear axle torque to either wheel as needed.
It comes with the turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine with 250 hp and 277 lb-ft of torque. That’s enough power to send it through challenges, but the Tremor package reduced the max towing capacity from 4,000 to 2,000 lbs.
Is the Maverick Tremor worth buying?
The $2,655 Ford Maverick Tremor package is worth it if you need to tackle light off-roading challenges. However, as a city truck, how often will drivers take their Maverick models off the pavement?
Other AWD models should be able to get to your camping site just fine. Plus, they can tow more camping equipment. The Maverick Tremor package may offer things that most people don’t need while still leaving parts of the undercarriage vulnerable.
Also, because of the stiffer suspension and knobbier tires, the Maverick Tremor may have a bumpier ride. The lifted suspension may contribute to more body roll as well. But drivers may prefer the taller ride height in traffic.
The Maverick tremor adds affordable off-roading upgrades for light adventuring. If you plan to get in the mud or tackle steep inclines, then a larger truck like the Ford Ranger could be a better choice.
