One of the most popular vehicles is the 2022 Ford Maverick. Although it’s difficult to find, some people might have some questions about it. A common question is whether or not it’s available with a V6 engine. If you’re buying the Maverick for its pickup truck power, you’ll want as much as possible. Fortunately, Ford gave us a few powertrains to choose from, but does the 2022 Ford Maverick have a V6?

For the 2022 model year, there are two different Ford Maverick engines. Firstly, the standard option comes with every version of the compact truck, regardless of trim level. Whether you opt for the entry-level Maverick XL or the fully-loaded Lariat, each one comes with the same engine. Fortunately, it’s a fuel-efficient and surprisingly peppy option.

Every Ford Maverick comes with a 2.5-liter hybrid four-cylinder engine producing 191 horsepower. As a result, the standard version gets the best fuel economy of any pickup truck. It’s rated for an outstanding 42 city and 33 highway mpg, which is very impressive even compared to similarly-sized options.

Alternatively, there is an available non-hybrid engine. If you’re looking for increased horsepower or don’t want the hybrid, you’ll have to pay more. Ford charges about $1,000 extra to swap any model to the 2.0-liter EcoBoost engine. All three trim levels are swappable with either engine, which produces 250 horsepower. Unfortunately, the non-hybrid loses fuel economy, dropping to a Consumer Reports-tested 16 city and 32 highway mpg, which still isn’t bad.

The Maverick does not have a V6

As you can see, there is no V6 engine available for the 2022 Ford Maverick. Although the main draw of the Maverick so far is the excellent fuel economy, it would be nice to have a more powerful variant. Fortunately, the lack of a V6 engine also allows for the low price of the Maverick. Even buying the range-topping Lariat model only starts at $25,860, or $26,945, with the non-hybrid engine. Affordability isn’t common with other pickup trucks, especially those with a V6 or V8 option.

Unfortunately, Ford fans have to choose the full-size F-150 to get a V6 engine. For pickup trucks, both the Maverick and Ranger don’t have a V6 option. However, for the new model year, a Ranger Raptor variant will use a twin-turbo 3.0-liter EcoBoost V6. That will be the only pickup option smaller than an F-150 in the Ford lineup to house a V6.

Should you buy a 2022 Ford Maverick?

If you’re interested in a small yet capable pickup truck, the Maverick is an excellent choice. However, 2022 Ford Maverick models are sold out in just about every location. Thanks to the chip shortage and supply chain problems, production is low while demand is high, so good luck finding one of these compact trucks available somewhere. Unfortunately, if you’re only interested in a truck with a V6, the Maverick isn’t for you.

Ford’s newest compact truck is meant for those needing some minor pickup truck utility combined with excellent fuel economy. As a result, the two excellent engine options excel in fuel economy and provide just enough power.
