Buying a midsize truck means you’ll have plenty of options to choose from. Even pickup trucks are only worth buying for some people if they’re genuinely luxurious. Moreover, those familiar with Chevrolet‘s full-size truck, the Silverado, know there’s a High Country luxury trim at the top of the lineup. Does the 2022 Chevy Colorado have a luxury High Country trim? Are the range-topping Colorado trims worth buying? The 2022 GMC Canyon Denali might be the perfect alternative.

There is no 2022 Chevy Colorado High Country

Sitting atop the 2022 Chevy Silverado lineup is the High Country model. As Chevrolet’s equivalent to the GMC Denali trims, it’s riddled with value. Unfortunately, it starts at over $60,000, which is nearly $20K more than the starting price of the Silverado WT. As a result, even maximum luxury feels expensive. Thankfully, the pain is eased by luxurious features like running board side assist steps, a Bose premium audio system, a wireless charging pad, and more.

You might want similar treatment if you’re switching to a midsize truck. According to Edmunds, no luxury-oriented trim level is at the top of the Colorado lineup. Instead, a ZR2 off-road model is made for driving through the mud, starting at $45,395. Although it’s intended for off-roading, it’s still filled with luxurious amenities. For example, heated seats, a Bose sound system, rear parking sensors, a spray-in bed liner, and more. However, most of these comfort items come with the LT and Z71 trims, which are cheaper.

The only reason to opt for the ZR2 trim level is off-roading. Furthermore, the standard features make it the ideal midsize truck for driving away from the road. It has all-terrain tires, a raised suspension, special dampers, an electronically locking rear differential, hill descent control, an off-road suspension, and more.

The best luxury Chevy Colorado alternative

Alternatively, if off-road features don’t do it for you, there’s a way to get a luxury Chevy Colorado. With some automakers, it can be convenient that many models are identical. For the 2022 Chevy Colorado, it’s the GMC Canyon, its corporate cousin. Thankfully, the Canyon lineup features a Denali trim level, which is close to what we’d expect from a Colorado High Country.

The Sierra 1500 Denali and Silverado High Country have a lot in common for full-size trucks. That’s why we’d expect these luxury models to be the same if the Colorado offered one. Moreover, buying a Canyon Denali will cost you $42,395. As a result, equipment like a wireless charging pad, leather upholstery, Bose audio, ventilated front seats, a heated steering wheel, spray-in bed liner, forward collision warning, lane departure warning, and rear parking sensors are standard.

This model comes with similar luxury features to the Colorado ZR2 and more, and it’s also cheaper. At a lower starting price, it’s obvious the Canyon does not have off-roading features. However, anyone that wants a high-quality, luxurious midsize truck will love the 2022 GMC Canyon Denali. Buying the most expensive 2022 Chevy Colorado is a waste if you won’t take it off-roading.

Unfortunately, the 2022 Chevy Colorado lineup does not feature a High Country trim level. Unlike its full-size sibling, the Silverado, Chevrolet has yet to implement a purely luxurious model. Instead, the top trim is completely off-road-oriented, titled ZR2. However, there is a corporate cousin equivalent, the 2022 GMC Canyon, that offers a luxury alternative. If you’re looking for a luxurious Chevy Colorado, buy the GMC Canyon Denali instead.
