In 2022, high-performance trucks are not out of the norm. Brands like Ford and Ram both give powerful engines to full-size trucks like the Ford F-150 and Ram 1500. But in the past, performance trucks were not all that common. Especially one with a V10 engine and six-speed manual transmission. But from 2004 to 2006, that is exactly what Dodge Ram did. The brand took the engine from the infamous Dodge Viper and put it into a truck. Resulting in a truck with 500 horsepower and 525 pound-foot of torque.

The Dodge Ram SRT-10 was a limited production truck that was built for just two years. It came with an 8.3-liter V10 engine that came out of the third generation Viper. The truck was available with either a six-speed manual transmission or a four-speed automatic transmission. The vehicle was developed by Dodge’s Performance Vehicle Operations group, and it was absolutely crazy that the project was given the green light.

In order to get the 8.3-liter V10 engine to function properly in a Ram truck, the intake system, oil pan, engine mounts, and more all had to be redesigned. Additionally, the truck would need improved cooling capabilities to deal with the power increase. From the factory, the SRT-10 came equipped with 305/40ZR22 Pirelli Scorpion tires to provide enough traction with the ground.

Other changes were made to the suspension to improve the ride quality. Bilstein shocks were used, as were shorter and stiffer springs. There was a 1.0-inch drop in ride height for the front and a 2.5-inch drop in the rear. Paired with the rear anti-roll bar and change in the front knuckle design, this truck was ready to take full advantage of its speed.

How much is the Dodge Ram SRT-10 worth?

The SRT-10 was available in a range of editions. And depending on which one is being looked out, the price will vary. During the production years, not very many SRT-10 models were built. Which does add to the price that they command today.

According to Kelley Blue Book, the SRT-10 hovers around the mid-$20,000s. But with exceptionally clean and well-equipped models, prices can climb over $50,000. With this price point, buyers do get a piece of automotive history as well as a truck that delivers serious power. And while modern performance truck may pack more horses under the hood, they aren’t getting their power from a Viper engine.

The Dodge Ram SRT-10 is not necessarily cheap. But, it is a rare and powerful full-size truck that still offers a modern driving experience. Better yet, it also boasts an aggressive and sporty look. Which many truck and muscle car enthusiasts are likely to appreciate.

While Ram currently offers a performance truck in form of the Ram 1500 TRX, the driving experience of the SRT-10 is more engaging thanks to features like its manual transmission. Plus, you can likely pick one up for cheaper. Although, the TRX does offer off-road performance.
