The sun is setting on Mopar muscle cars, including the popular Dodge Challenger models. However, before Dodge closes the curtain on the Challenger, the automaker set out to dethrone its previous hellacious halo car, the 2018 Dodge SRT Demon. Enter the new Dodge Challenger SRT Demon 170, a car so fast and unhinged it smashed records just rolling off the line.

The new Challenger SRT Demon 170 immortalized itself with these five wild records

  • Most violently-accelerating production car in history
  • Fastest quarter-mile drag time of any gas-powered production muscle car
  • Fastest 0 to 60 mph time of any gas-powered production car
  • Only factory muscle car to run on E85
  • Most powerful production muscle car ever

When Dodge unveiled the first Challenger-platform SRT Demon in 2018, it was a parade of superlatives. Donut Media’s James Pumphrey appropriately described the car as the “blankest blank of any production car,” referring to its library of record-setting qualities. Unsurprisingly, the new 2023 Dodge Challenger SRT Demon 170 follows suit with a list of its own bragging rights.

How hard does the new Dodge Challenger SRT Demon 170 accelerate?

The new SRT Demon 170 accelerates harder and more violently than any other production car, muscle or otherwise. According to the automaker, it will launch at up to 2.004 gs.

In comparison, the instant-torque and all-wheel drive (AWD) of a tri-motor Tesla Model S Plaid will propel it forward at 1.11 gs, per MotorTrend. That sort of thrust will induce a wheelie on the drag strip. The only other production car that will bring its front wheels off the ground during a hard launch is, you guessed it, the last Demon.

The new Demon 170 has one purpose: dragstrip domination

Dodge built the new SRT Demon 170 for the same reason the automaker released its predecessor, to dominate the dragstrip. Specifically, the new Dodge halo car can finish a quarter-mile drag in just 8.91 seconds at 151 mph; it has the fastest quarter-mile drag time of any gas-powered production muscle car

How fast does an SRT Demon 170 go from 0 to 60?

In addition to its savagely fast quarter-mile time, Dodge says the new Demon 170 will hit 60 mph in just 1.66 seconds under favorable conditions. If it can live up to its stats, the final “Last Call” model is the fastest-accelerating factory muscle car ever.

What fuel does the Dodge Demon 170 use?

Dodge’s new SRT Demon 170 will produce 900 horsepower on pump gasoline. However, horsepower figures rise to 1,025 with the model’s namesake 170-proof E85 fuel blend. The Mopar brute’s cocktail of choice makes it the only current production muscle car with an appetite for E85.

Dodge’s new swan song halo car is the most potent production V8-powered muscle car ever

In addition to dethroning its predecessor, the new Demon 170’s 1,025 horsepower makes it the most powerful production muscle car ever. Even on pump gas, the new halo car is the most potent vehicle Dodge has ever produced.
