Nobody wants a car that has a reputation for being a deathtrap. It seems reasonable that the most dangerous cars on the market would be sports cars, muscle cars, and perhaps some rollover-prone SUVs. That doesn’t mean that the most dangerous cars are the deadliest cars, though. Some of the vehicles on a list of the deadliest cars in America might surprise you, like the Honda Civic.

  • Honda Accord
  • Toyota Camry
  • Honda Civic
  • Toyota Corolla
  • Nissan Altima

Is a Honda Accord a safe car?

According to a ValuePenguin study, the Honda Accord was the most frequently crashed passenger car in America as of 2018. There were an alarming 5,079 fatal car crashes involving a Honda Accord during the study timeframe. As a result, the Honda Accord is the deadliest car on this list.

Is the Toyota Camry the safest car?

According to the study, the Camry is one of the deadliest vehicles on the road. However, considering that the Toyota Camry was the most popular car in America at the time of the study, it makes sense that there would be many accidents involving it. Still, unfortunately, there were 4,734 fatal incidents with a Toyota Camry. Numbers like that get the Camry a spot on the list of deadliest cars.

Is the Honda Civic dangerous?

The Honda Civic may not be any more dangerous than most other comparable sedans, but the statistics are sobering. During the study period, the Honda Civic was involved in 4,397 fatal crashes.

Is the Toyota Corolla one of the deadliest cars in America?

The Toyota Corolla is one of the deadliest cars in America, per the ValuePenguin report. However, that does make sense considering that Toyota sold 303,732 Corollas in 2018 alone. Still, the 3,430 fatal incidents associated with the sedan are troubling.

Is the Nissan Altima dangerous?

The Nissan Altima is on the list of the deadliest cars in America, but it isn’t necessarily dangerous. The Altima is, however, plentiful. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) reports that Nissan sold 209,146 Altimas in 2018. Still, the car was involved in 3,267 fatal crashes during the study timeframe.

Should you avoid the cars on this list of deadliest sedans?

Before you write these ordinary sedans off as absolute deathtraps, you must consider a few things. Although the above figures may appear scary, they represent a minimal number of the vehicles sold in the United States. In fact, many of these cars have high safety ratings from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) and the NHTSA

Also, ValuePenguin crafted the list based on 2014 to 2018 data collected from the NHTSA, an agency that monitors safety for the entire country. Consequently, it makes sense that the most common fatal incidents would involve some of the best-selling vehicles. Finally, you should keep in mind that driving is a risky activity, and you should keep your wits about you regardless of your car.
