Don’t be alarmed, the 2022 Kia Sorento is an excellent SUV to consider. We know that some critics are on edge about the Kia Sorento, but the concerns should only last for a little while. Prices are currently out of control, so it will be best to wait a little longer.

It might not be the best time to buy the 2022 Kia Sorento. That’s because prices are currently raging out of control. The Sorento is available for about 18% over its MSRP! But to be fair, prices are up across the entire industry.

The entry-level Sorento starts at about $33,990 but has an average transaction price of $40,162. These models are going for about $6,172 over MSRP. People are paying significantly more for vehicles that are in high demand.

It may seem worth the extra cash to get behind the wheel of your dream vehicle, despite leading to great depreciation rates over time. However, critics like U.S. News and World Report recommend saving with other options for now. There are roomier, more reliable options in the segment with adjacent pricing.

Kia Sorento alternatives include the Volkswagen Tiguan, Ford Explorer, Toyota Highlander, and Honda Pilot. The Kia Telluride and Hyundai Palisade are suitable alternatives too, but they also have incredibly high markups.

Is the 2022 Kia Sorento reliable?

When prices return to normal, keep in mind that the 2022 Kia Sorento has a pretty solid reliability rating. It was redesigned in 2021 and has presented a few issues that drivers have struggled with but also improved its quality.

J.D.Power gave the 2022 Serento a predicted reliability score of 83 out of 100. This is an above-average score. Rankings between 81 and 90 are above average, and scores between 91 to 100 are the best. Scores are based on potential issues reported by previous owners.

You can expect the average Kia Sorrento model to last between 230,000 to 270,000 years. It should make it to 200,000 miles before server problems occur. If you drive about 15,000 miles per year, then you could get over 13 years of service on the road.

You may remember that there was a recall for the 2021 Kia Sorento due to a fuel leak at the pipe connection. Owners had this problem corrected at no cost.

Does the Kia Sorento have transmission problems?

We went to Car Complaints to see detailed reports about the transmission issues. Owners listed that the transmission has a delay when in drive and over revs the engine at low speeds. Another driver shared that their Sorento suddenly stopped accelerating on the highway.

One owner found that their Sorento seemed to be stuck in neutral with 5,000 RPMs before shifting into third gear. Then on the way to the dealership, their vehicle wouldn’t shift into drive or reverse and had to be towed to the dealership.

We looked for information about the 2022 Kia Sorento to see if the transmission issues have been addressed. The reports of transmission problems are relatively low at the moment. At least if you wait to buy a Sorento, you’ll have more time to see if there is a solution.

The transmission problems shouldn’t be a significant concern. There are plenty of great things to consider about the Sorento. For example, it provides a peppy acceleration with responsive handling, has a comfortable ride quality, and features an attractive style inside and out.
