How much does it cost to recharge a Ford F-150 Lightning?

The Ford F-150 Lightning offers 230 miles of standard driving range. Some upper trim level models can travel for a whopping 300 miles. The F-150 Lightning has ample range for most drivers, but what about charging costs?

One of the main reasons that American drivers consider making the switch from gas-powered vehicles to EVs is the cost of fuel. It’s much cheaper to recharge EVs than it is to refuel internal combustion engine vehicles.

According to InsideEVs, it costs approximately $1,107 a year to recharge the Ford F-150 Lightning based on today’s electricity prices. This works out to just $92.25 a month or $23.06 every week. In comparison, it costs about $4,333 a year to refuel the Ford F-150 gas-powered pickup. That works out to $361.08 a month or $90.27 a week. That’s over three times the cost of recharging the F-150 Lightning.

So, if you choose an F-150 Lightning over an F-150, you end up saving $3,226 a year on fuel costs. ISeeCars.com claims that drivers keep the average new vehicle for 8.4 years. That equates to $27,098 in savings if you switch from a gas-powered F-150 to the F-150 Lightning.

This brings its starting price closer to just $32,474. That’s only a $1,604 increase from the price of the gas-powered F-150. No wonder the Lightning quickly amassed over 200,000 reservations.

The F-150 Lightning is a steal once you factor in the EV tax credit, but this incentive won’t last forever. It will be gradually phased out over time as automakers hit sales thresholds.
