Consumer Reports: Everything Wrong With America’s Favorite Full-Size 2022 Pickup Truck

The Blue Oval makes America’s favorite pickup truck. Though many experts consider the Ram 1500 to be the better full-size pickup truck, the Ford F-150 remains America’s best-selling pickup. Just because consumers love the Ford F-150 doesn’t mean it’s perfect. Ford’s bestselling model has more than a few issues.

Is Ford’s best-selling full-size 2022 pickup truck reliable?

The 2022 Ford F-150 has one of the highest ratings on Consumer Reports’ list of new full-size pickup trucks. The F-150 may be at the top of its vehicle class alongside the Ram 1500, but it has room to grow like any other vehicle. Consumer Reports gave the F-150 a 2/5 predicted reliability rating.

The predicted reliability rating is based on information gathered from previous model years. CR takes that information and compares it to the reliability of the average new vehicle. Consumer Reports believes that the 2022 Ford F-150 is less reliable than the average new vehicle based on its data.

A 2/5 predicted reliability score works out to a 40% score. While some consumers are comfortable with Ford F-Series models and trust the Blue Oval to deliver consistent reliability, other consumers may be deterred by a score this low. Some F-150 models have already been recalled for a fractured driveshaft. This recall doesn’t bode well for the F-150’s overall predicted reliability.

What issues does the 2022 Ford F-150 have?

The Ford F-150 got a 3/5 from Consumer Reports for braking. CarComplaints.com also reported 12 total National Highway for Traffic Safety Administration complaints about the 2021 model year’s brakes. CR tests vehicles wet and dry braking to determine their score.

Another problem area that CR targeted is the F-150’s ride quality. The full-size pickup truck scored a 3/5 or 60% for its ride. Pickup trucks don’t typically have the smoothest rides, but if the Blue Oval wants to compete with the Ram 1500, ride quality and comfort are important factors.

The F-150 got a 3/5 or 60% for interior fit and finish. The F-150’s interior isn’t as refined as the Ram 1500’s interior. Ultimately, despite the many problem areas that CR identified, the full-size pickup is still easily one of the best options on the market.
