When it comes to buying a large, reliable SUV, it’s hard to find everything you want, especially if you’re looking in the already limited market of three-row SUVs. Three-row SUVs have a lot of space, but they aren’t always reliable or have great fuel efficiency. Buying one brand new can be expensive, and when you’re spending ‘new car’ money, you want the third-row seating, practicality, high-reliability ratings, and the best fuel-efficiency you can get, and according to Consumer Reports, these are the best options to get all of the above among the new 2020 models.
2020 Kia Telluride
The 2020 Kia Telluride had the highest overall score among the three-row SUVs that made this list. It ranks highly for customer satisfaction, which is a good, first-hand way to gauge how good a car actually is. The Telluride gets an overall gas mileage of 21mpg between the city and highway driving, which doesn’t sound like much until you consider the size and weight of the SUV.
2020 Lexus RX L
The 2020 Lexus RX L is a three-row seat SUV with all of the perks and luxury of a smaller Lexus car. It has great standard safety features like forward collision warning and automatic emergency braking, along with additional safety features offered in higher-level trims. It has high-reliability ratings with no major problems reported for this model year and gets a reported 20mpg average.
2020 Toyota Highlander
The 2020 Toyota Highlander makes more than one list for Consumer Reports, and it’s reportedly better for offroading than other cars on the list like the Kia Telluride. The third row isn’t as large as most owners would prefer, but the second row is spacious enough for most daily use to be comfortable.
2020 Honda Pilot
The new Honda Pilot isn’t the most physically attractive three-row seat SUV on this list, but what it lacks in style it makes up for in practicality. From the outside, you see a standard full-sized SUV, but driving it will give you a different experience. This heavy SUV handles well on the road, is well-insulated to minimize road noise, and has a surprisingly good fuel efficiency rating with around 20mpg on average.
The market for three-row SUVs isn’t particularly large, but it is a great way to avoid driving a minivan which can sometimes lose practicality and isn’t always fuel efficient. When you’re looking to buy a new SUV, you want to know that it’s reliable, and most of us care that it’s at least reasonably fuel efficient, and according to Consumer Reports, these SUVs have all of that to offer, and some have more.
