Consumer Reports Said the 2020 Ford Ecosport Is ‘Neither Eco nor Sport’
Due to the fact that SUV popularity continues to be on the rise with drivers from all over the world, many automobile manufacturers have started to become more competitive than ever when it comes to the design of its sports utility vehicles. Most automotive companies strive to make sure that all of their SUVs come equipped with a wide range of features. And this was definitely true when it came to designing the Ford EcoSport.
The EcoSport has several high-tech safety and comfort features. However, Consumer Reports recently stated that even though Ford’s compact SUV might have some desirable features, they believe that Ford may have misled some consumers when naming the vehicle. So far, the vehicle does not seem to be too eco-friendly or sporty.
2020 Ford EcoSport has a stylish exterior

When it comes to exterior style, the new EcoSport is a step ahead of its competitors. This compact SUV is offered in a wide range of colors including Diamond White, Lighting Blue, and Moondust Silver. Elegant curves stretch from the nose of the vehicle to the subtle rear spoiler to help give it a more sporty and aerodynamic look.
If you are wanting to add a little more style to the exterior, the EcoSport offers a Black Appearance Package on SES models that adds a coat of shiny, black paint to the roof and spoiler as well as a black sporty hood decal.
Interior features
The Ford EcoSport’s base model comes equipped with a 6.5-inch touchscreen infotainment display, and all other trim levels come equipped with an 8-inch touchscreen display.
Both displays are conveniently located on top of the dash, which makes it easy for the driver to access without obstructing their vision while driving. Both displays also come standard with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity options.
There is also a six-speaker sound system that comes standard, or drivers can opt for the available 10-speaker Bang & Olufsen premium sound system, according to Ford.
The rest of the interior is slightly dull and cramped. Other than the large infotainment display and the available power sunroof, the EcoSport doesn’t offer very many luxurious interior features like some of the vehicles in its class do.
Also, the interior is slightly cramped and some adults may find it very uncomfortable to sit in the backseat. The rear cargo area has a modest amount of space.
However, the rear swing gate opens from the side and makes loading and unloading cargo much easier than other SUVs. Also, if you do need a little more cargo room, the back seats fold down flat in a 60/40 split which creates up to 50 cubic feet of cargo space.
Does the Ford EcoSport live up to its name?
The 2020 EcoSport offers two different engine options. The first option is the 1.0-liter EcoBoost engine that is mated to a 6-speed automatic transmission and delivers 123 hp and 125 lb-ft of torque.
The other option is the slightly more powerful 2.0-liter engine that is paired with a 6-speed automatic transmission and produces 166 hp and 149 lb-ft of torque. Consumer Reports recently stated that no matter which engine you choose, the “fuel economy and acceleration are neither eco nor sport.”
Although the EcoSport’s small frame makes it more agile and easy to make sharp turns, the vehicle seems to have a sluggish start and takes longer than other vehicles in its class to pick up speed. Also, it gets an estimated fuel economy of around 24 mpg combined, which means it has some of the worst fuel economy ratings in its class.
