Consumer Reports Recommends These 2 Ford Trucks

For 2022, Consumer Reports has recommended just three compact pickup trucks, two of which are from the Ford brand. Both the 2022 Ford Maverick and 2022 Ford Ranger have earned the stamp of approval from Consumer Reports, and that is a reflection of how ideal these truck models are. The Ford Maverick is a true compact truck, while the Ranger is considered a mid-size truck. Both vehicles are well-equipped to handle a variety of needs, so it makes sense that CR would recommend them.

The 2022 Ford Maverick is Ford’s small truck

If you are searching for a small, affordable truck, the new Maverick is likely it. This compact pickup shares its platform with the Ford Escape, which means it has a comfortable and more car-like ride. At the same time, it can come outfitted to tow up to 4,000 pounds and it even has an available off-road package. This means that the Maverick has some legitimate utility.

The starting cost of the Ford Maverick is around $20,000. This gets you a standard hybrid engine and the capability of a pickup. The Maverick is also available in three distinct trim levels, allowing you to get the proper amount of truck for your needs.

According to Consumer Reports, the new Maverick does currently have three recalls. But the publication still recommends this truck. CR states that the Maverick is better at truck stuff than other small trucks it competes with such as the 2022 Hyundai Santa Cruz. That said, it is worth noting that the Santa Cruz can tow up to 5,000 lbs which is 1,000 lbs more than the Ford Maverick.

The 2022 Ford Ranger is still great

When Ford discontinued the Ranger in the U.S., fans wondered if this truck would ever make its return. And in 2019, Ford finally brought its mid-size truck back to the American market. Now, the current Ranger sold in the states is based on the prior generation, which can make it feel a bit dated. But with its 2.3-liter turbocharged engine, it offers ample power and performance.

The 2022 Ranger is an ideal alternative for those who want the capability of a pickup, but do not necessarily want to deal with driving a full-size truck. Consumer Reports likes that the truck is relatively efficient, but at the same time, the Ranger can quickly become expensive. Putting it up against larger competitors.

Still, for those who want a mid-size truck that is body-on-frame and carries the weight of the blue oval, the 2022 Ranger does hold its own. When properly equipped, the Ranger can tow up to 7,500 lbs and it has the chops to haul as well. Better yet, it can also come with the FX4 Off-Road package, which will help this mid-size truck to take the road less traveled.

Should you buy a Ford truck?

For some time, Ford has built trucks that are worth buying. And its commitment to this segment is reflected in taking the risk of building a compact truck, the Maverick.
