According to Consumer Reports, the 2022 Toyota Highlander outranks the 2022 Kia Telluride in terms of being the roomiest and most comfortable SUV. The Highlander is actually number one on the list of most comfortable midsize SUVs.

The Highlander ranks ahead of the Lexus RX, Kia Telluride, Hyundai Palisade, Subaru Outback, Mazda CX-9, and Volkswagen Atlas. This is surprising because the Highlander is known for having a tight third row.

Consumer Reports ranked these vehicles based on testing each vehicle. The tests involve seeing how much cargo fits in the rear, how comfortable the driver’s seat is, and how easily people can access and exit the front and rear seats.

During a week-long evaluation, people of all shapes and sizes enter and exit the vehicle. Plus, cargo space is measured by seeing how many suitcases and duffle bags fit in the cargo hold.

Does the Highlander have more room than the Telluride?

This depends on who you ask. The 2022 Toyota Highlander has an official cargo volume of 16 cubic feet behind the rear seats and up to 84.3 cubic feet of cargo space total. But Consumer Reports measures the cargo capacity at 41 cubic feet.

The 2022 Kia Telluride provides up to 21 cubic feet of cargo space behind the rear seats with up to 87 cubes total. Consumer Reports found that the cargo volume measures about 47.5 cubic feet.

Now we’re a little confused as to why the Highlander ranks ahead when both methods of measurement show that the Telluride has more cargo space.

Both SUVs earned a score of one out of five for third-row seat comfort. The Telluride provides 25 inches of legroom in the third row, while the Highlander offers up to 22 inches of legroom.

The Highlander earned a score of one out of five for third-row seat access, while the Telluride earned a score of two out of five. This makes it seem like the third row is easier to access in the Telluride.

The Kia Telluride has an impressively quiet interior with a relaxed engine hum and a low amount of wind noise. But has a score of five out of five for the noise rating. The Highlander has a score of four out of five for noise.
