Consumer Reports Predicts That Drivers Won’t Like Any of Nissan’s Sedans

Consumer Reports currently recommends every Nissan sedan available for the 2022 model year. Even so, a CR endorsement doesn’t mean that most drivers who own these vehicles long-term will agree. Judging from the owner satisfaction scores, barely any consumers will enjoy these Nissan models.

What does owner satisfaction mean on Consumer Reports?

Consumer Reports periodically sends out surveys to drivers to gauge their opinions about the cars they own. These surveys contain questions about a specific vehicle’s performance, styling, price, and comfort levels. 

CR takes those opinions and compares them to the site’s professional assessment of the vehicle to determine owner satisfaction. If the car is brand new, CR might give it a predicted satisfaction score instead.

What Consumer Reports likes about the Nissan Versa

According to Consumer Reports, the Nissan Versa is one of the most efficient cars in the subcompact class. It earned 32 mpg overall in CR’s real-world testing, and test drivers also appreciated the smooth shifts from the transmission. Standard AEB is another useful perk, though half of the Versa’s safety features can only be found in the upper trim levels.

The 2022 Nissan Versa’s lackluster interior and unappealing seats will probably scare away potential drivers. The driver’s position is unforgiving toward taller occupants, and the stiff suspension makes it difficult to enjoy the ride. The Nissan Versa also struggles to merge on the highway, and doing so causes elevated interior noise levels.

Lots of drivers will probably dislike the Nissan Sentra

Consumer Reports guesses that owners probably won’t like the Nissan Sentra because of its uncomfortable front seat. It doesn’t offer much support, and test drivers frequently bumped their legs into the Sentra’s parking brake. The rear seats also don’t provide much cushioning, but at least the Sentra’s suspension mutes bumps excellently.

In fact, CR had almost no complaints about the 2022 Nissan Sentra’s ride quality. That used to be one of the biggest sore spots for Sentra owners until the sedan was redesigned for the 2020 model year. However, driving at night could still pose some problems because the standard headlights are too dim.

Is the Nissan Altima worth the recommendation?

Consumer Reports says that most drivers won’t think the Nissan Altima is worth its asking price. Only half of its owners would consider getting another one in the future. However, the 2022 Nissan Altima scored decently in the other three satisfaction categories.

CR test drivers also enjoyed driving the Nissan Altima, appreciating its eager acceleration and the performance of the CVT. However, it doesn’t have the smoothest ride and the steering wheel doesn’t offer much feedback. 

While the rear seat is comfortable, the driver’s seat is only average in comparison. CR also complained about the Altima’s low riding position preventing convenient seat access.

The Nissan Maxima doesn’t please anyone

Even Consumer Reports found a lot of flaws when testing the Nissan Maxima. While specific insights from owners are unavailable, CR thinks drivers will hate almost every aspect of the Maxima’s ride. This sedan is unruly to drive, with heavy, uncommunicative steering and a lot of body roll.

The suspension’s performance also fades over time, and the CVT creates a lot of unnecessary interior noise. Drivers will also have to deal with limited visibility and a tight seating position. The experience is only salvaged with Nissan’s comfy zero-gravity seats.

The Nissan Maxima is still one of the quickest vehicles in the segment, yet it still earns a decent 24 mpg combined city/highway. CR also appreciated the Maxima’s upscale interior quality and intuitive infotainment controls. While it’s probably a reputable rental car, its other annoyances will likely drive actual owners crazy.
