According to Consumer Reports, the 2022 Ram 1500 is the best truck you can buy. It has the highest overall score of 75 out of 100 points. Plus, it’s the only full-size truck that it recommends buying.

The 2022 Ford F-150 came in second place with a score of 60 out of 100 and isn’t recommended to buy. The 2022 Chevy Silverado 1500 is down near last place with a score of 46 out of 100.

Since the Ram 1500 was redesigned in 2019, it continues to be one of the most comfortable and satisfying trucks you can buy. The coil spring rear suspension offers a smooth ride, and the cabin is peacefully quiet. It provides an upscale, luxurious feeling while still being rugged and durable.

Why is the Ram 1500 the best?

One of the reasons why the 2022 Ram 1500 dominates the competition is its higher reliability ranking. The 2022 model has a predicted reliability rating of three out of five. It’s the only truck with an average rating.

The 2022 Ford F-150 has a predicted reliability ranking of two out of five, and the 2022 Chevy Silverado 1500 has a predicted reliability ranking of one out of five. These rankings are based on issues reported in previous model years.

Consumer Reports sends out surveys to thousands of vehicle owners, allowing them to report on 17 potential trouble areas ranging from body integrity issues, engine problems, transmission trouble, in-car electronics, and more.

The most severe Ram 1500 problems seem to be reported for models before 2018. Fewer reports of serious issues have been listed for the 2019, 2020, and 2021 models. This may indicate that the most significant problems have been corrected.

Also, the 2022 Ram 1500 only has one recall so far. Specific models may have been manufactured with incompatible heating, air conditioning, and ventilation systems. As a result, the windshield defrosting and defogging systems became inoperable. This recall only affected about 2022 models and has been corrected by FCA.

The 2022 Ram 1500 has four engine options, including a 3.0-liter V6 diesel engine. Each engine provides smooth transmission shifts with the eight-speed automatic powertrain. While the truck tends to get about 17 mpg, the diesel engine achieves about 23 mpg.

Plus, this truck is spacious, with plenty of passenger space in the front and rear. In the crew cab, the rear seat can recline up to eight degrees and can be folded up to provide a flat loading floor. There are plenty of cubbies, bins, and under-seat storage compartments for all your gear.

The tech is praised for being advanced with simple controls. You can pick a 5.0-, 8.4-, or 12-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The automatic climate control system works quickly to either warm or cool the cabin based on the weather.

While the Ram truck is pretty safe, forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning, lane-keeping assistance, blind-spot warning, and rear cross-traffic alert aren’t standard.

The Ram 1500 isn’t perfect, but no truck is. However, the 1500 is one of the most reliable and most well-rounded options you can buy.
