There are a lot of SUVs available on the market these days. Consumer Reports has some of the most reliable and fuel-efficient compact SUVs available for 2022. Most of these options scored high on the official road test and got above-average scores for the predicted owner satisfaction and reliability.

Consumer Reports reccomends the 2022 Hyundai Tucson

Consumer Reports says that compact SUVs are the most popular because these vehicles offer the best of both worlds. Big enough to tote all of your belongings around, but not too big to be hard to drive. The 2022 Hyundai Tucson checks all of the boxes.

The Tucson gets an overall 35 mpg, which is actually one of the highest on this list. It came in second on the list of compact SUVs that Consumer Reports put together, too. It is a green choice that scores perfect fives across the board for the road test, predicted reliability, and predicted owner satisfaction. Forward collision warning (FCW), automatic emergency braking (AEB), and blind-spot warning (BSW) are included standard.

The 2022 Subaru Forester got five-stars on this Consumer Reports test

The 2022 Subaru Forester got an overall 28 mph and came in first on the list of compact SUVs. It scored a perfect five stars on the road test. For the predicted reliability and owner satisfaction, the Forester still got an above-average score of four out of five stars.

Consumer Reports says the Subaru Forester is roomy and nimble. FCW, AEB, and lane departure warning (LDW) are standard. BSW is still optional.

The 2022 Toyota RAV4 Prime is a highly-anticipated new compact SUV

The 2022 Toyota RAV4 Prime is one of the more popular SUVs to hit the market next year. It gets an overall 72 mpg thanks to the plug-in hybrid offerings. It racks up about 40 miles on the electric motor alone.

Like the Tuscon, it received pretty perfect scores across the board. Consumer Reports says it is a green choice and gave it five stars for the road test, predicted reliability, and predicted owner satisfaction. FCW, AEB, BSW, and rear cross-traffic warning (RCTW) are standard

Another option from Subaru is the 2022 Subaru Crosstrek

The 2022 Subaru Crosstrek came in first on the list of subcompact SUVs from Consumer Reports. It gets an overall 29 mpg and scored high on the road test. The predicted reliability and predicted owner satisfaction are both above-average.

The Crosstrek gets FCW and AEB standard with the automatic transmission. Subaru doesn’t offer these safety features on the manual option. BSW is optional on the Subaru Crosstrek.

Price Range:  $22,445 – $35,645

The 2022 Honda CR-V isn’t very new, but it is reliableq

The 2022 Honda CR-V is a popular SUV like the previous years. This subcompact SUV got 28 mpg overall and came in fourth on the compact SUV list. Consumer Reports gave it good marks for the road test. The predicted reliability came in at four out of five stars, but the predicted owner satisfaction was only three out of five.

Consumer Reports says the Honda CR-V interior is roomy and quiet. Honda’s advanced safety features include FCW and AEB standard.

Price Range:  $25,750 – $36,750

These compact SUVs might not be new to the market, but the reliability makes up for it. Plus, with such fuel-efficient options to take on a road trip, who needs new and exciting anyway?
