No car is ever going to be perfect, although some may come close. Consumer Reports has recently praised the 2022 Kia EV6, but that does not mean the publication did not find some drawbacks. One, in particular, seems like a pretty odd oversight for a mainstream manufacturer like Kia. While the new EV6 has a spirited drive and modern features, like all-wheel drive, it is lacking in one key area. One that could actually be fairly detrimental in terms of visibility as an EV crossover.

According to Consumer Reports, much like the Hyundai Ioniq 5, the Kia EV6 lacks a rear wiper. And that means that the rear window can become dirty quickly, especially in inclement weather. Consumer Reports is not the first publication to point this out, and with the EV6’s design, it is confusing why Kia chose not to include this important feature. 

Without a rear wiper, the rear window can quickly lose its visibility. Currently, there is no option to add a rear wiper for an additional cost. But, that could potentially change in the future if Kia receives enough complaints.

In addition to the lack of a rear wiper, the Kia EV6 does have a high cost. The starting price of the EV6 is $40,900, but it can benefit from a federal tax credit to help reduce its price tag. With the base EV6, buyers get rear-wheel drive and up to 232 miles of estimated range. In order to get more features, shoppers of the EV6 must opt for more expensive options. 

The 2022 Kia EV6 can come equipped with all-wheel drive. To get AWD, the price comes out to $47,000. But with AWD, this EV crossover comes equipped with a heat pump, which will help to maintain range in cold weather. Additionally, the AWD models offer up to 320 horsepower and 446 pound-foot of torque, and that is something that is likely to be appreciated.

Should you purchase a Kia EV6?

Buying the new Kia EV6 is a serious investment. But, it can deliver up to 310 miles of estimated range. Which is about on par or more than its competition. Another benefit of the Kia EV6 is its available onboard power generator. This feature can even help to charge other EV models. 

Another perk is the available and standard safety features. These add to driver and passenger confidence, giving added peace of mind. And, at over $40,000, they should be expected on a 2022 model. The 2022 Kia EV6 can also tow up to 2,300 pounds. This gives this EV crossover added utility over other options. 

Ultimately, buying the Kia EV6 comes down to buyer preference. It comes with serious range and a relatively sporty drive. Some models even come with things like vegan leather, making the interior models more sustainable.
