The Ford EcoSport was Consumer Reports’ least reliable compact SUV
Consumer Reports ranked the 2022 Ford EcoSport last for reliable compact SUVs. The EcoSport only managed to get a 45 out of 100 overall, meaning it was lacking in a few areas. The owner scores for value, comfort, style, driving, and infotainment came in at one out of five stars.
Some of the negatives from Consumer Reports included an uncomfortable ride, loud cabin, slow acceleration, and a lack of cargo space. CR noted the transmission and absence of forward collision warning (FCW) and automatic emergency braking (AEB). Not only did Ford not include these safety features as options, but FCW and AEB are not available. While the Ford EcoSport isn’t the right SUV for all parties, it still has enough to offer buyers in a certain price range.

Consumer Reports’ most reliable compact SUV is the Toyota RAV4 Prime
According to the owners ‘ scores, the 2022 Toyota RAV4 Prime was the most satisfying compact SUV. When it came down to the style and driving experience, the RAV4 Prime scored a perfect five out of five. The value fell short at one out of five, surprising for a Toyota SUV. The high points were acceleration, fuel economy, and part-time electric driving since it is a hybrid. Consumer Reports got 40 miles on the electric motor alone coupled with 34 mpg overall from the hybrid mode.
Consumer Reports recommended the Toyota RAV4 Prime and gave it the “green choice” accolade as well. FCW, AEB, blind-spot warning (BSW), rear cross-traffic warning (RCTW), and lane-keeping assist (LKA) are all standard.

The Hyundai Tucson was another reliable compact SUV
The 2022 Hyundai Tucson SUV was a close second. Owners were satisfied with the comfort, style, and driving experience. The infotainment system could use a little work, but the review was overall positive. The Tucson got an 89 out of 100 overall, with almost perfect scores across the board. The predicted reliability, predicted owner satisfaction, and road test was all above-average.
Consumer Reports recommends the Hyundai Tucson. FCW, AEB, RCTW, and LKA are all standard.
