Sure, the Sorento had some issues in the past, but it’s tough not to acknowledge how far the nameplate has come. The 2022 Kia Sorento is a great midsize SUV for consumers because it’s affordable and comfortable. Car and Driver gave the 2022 Sorento an Editor’s Choice award.

Kelley Blue Book gave the Sorento a near-perfect overall score, so maybe CR is being too critical of Kia’s second-best midsize SUV. The 2022 Kia Sorento starts at $29,590. It uses a 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine to make 191 horsepower. The midsize SUV achieves 24 miles per gallon in the city and 29 miles per gallon on the highway.

Nothing about the Sorento necessarily screams last place. In fact, the midsize South Korean SUV offers more value than some of its rivals in terms of affordability.

If you’re in the market for a new midsize SUV, the Kia Telluride is the way to go. If the Telluride doesn’t suit you, its cousin, the Hyundai Palisade, is a close second. The Sorento isn’t irredeemable, but it’s a long way from the top, even in Kia’s lineup.
